I bought it because the price was right--for $20, you can afford to be wrong. The goal was to get a GPS to help find my way around Mexico City's randomly-arranged streets. The Garmin products and their competitors cost around $200, but here on Ebay was this "GPS" with "Mexico maps included" for under $20. Worth a try. Well it turns out "GPS" in this case does not mean it can show you street-level map details, nor help you locate yourself on any other map you may have. Or at least, I couldn't figure out how. And "Mexico maps" doesn't mean it even includes street-level data for anywhere in Mexico. The included map data could do barely more than show me where Mexico City was on a global scale. Even after I got the new-user's "bonus download of $40 worth of map data" from DeLorme for which I requested 140 square miles around Mexico City... well, I don't even know what I got. I never saw any difference. Maybe the download failed; I can't tell--but they won't let me try again. Even after sitting with the GPS receiver stuck to my East-facing apartment window (about 8 steradians of direct sky view, including 60+ degrees of the equatorial plane) for six hours and finally acquiring a second satellite, the map software still seemed to indicate I was somewhere in the boondocks of central Mexico, several hundred miles from here. Huh? Other reviews online talk about a steep learning curve for the DeLorme LT-20. I have to agree. Poking around in the software I see a lot of neat-sounding technical data about satellites and such. Given a few days of vacation (like that ever happens) and a good manual, I would love to try and learn what it all means. But these days a vendor of GPS gadgets cannot assume their market to be tech geniuses with time on their hands. For all its neat features, this product is not what I was shopping for, and I cannot think of any productive use for it.Read full review
I got this as a replacement as I seem to have left mine behind when we came south. I really missed the feature on my Street Atlas USA program and have never been able to get the Butron one working.
