- Why you bought it I bought the Leica Leitz 50mm f/2.0 Lens to learn the photography in manual focusing, aperture setting and shutter speed adjusting. I mount this lens on my Sony NEX 5N with an adapter. After I set the WB, ISO on the menu and adjust the focus. I am able to adjust the aperture, shutter speed to obtain proper exposure. I examin the RAW file in LightRoom 3.6. The histogram show the exposure were very reasonable. I need to scale down the brightness slightly because I don't have UV filter on the lens. - What you like most about it This is a old lens. The exterior shows some wear on the black finish. But it's all mental construction, very solid and sturdy. The focus ring rotates smoothly. The aperture ring click on each stop with little effort. The glass still clean. At the widest aperture I was able to take picture in low light. - What you dislike about it None. - Whether or not you would buy the product again This lens may be produced more than 20 year ago but still in good shape and function properly. I bought it to see how Leica lens behaves before I decide to switch to Leica digital M series rangefinder camera and lens. Overall, in manual mode, it's easier to operate this lens than the kit lens. The wider aperture takes good pictures in low light condition. I don't need to turn on the flash most of the time.Read full review
This lens (R 3cam version) is one of the flagship Leica lenses and I bought to try to experience it. Used it on Pentax DSLR K5. Built quality is fabulous, as is picture quality especially in medium light on portrait. Flares relatively easily despite the retractable hood. A little heavy for a prime but can be balanced with a heavy camera body. Only problem for me is the cost which is 5 times the normal equivalent Pentax (Takumar). The picture quality is great but I wouldn't say it's 5 times better. It is arguably better, but perhaps it's also due to the psychological effect of having spent so much money in it. The picture (color rendering) is different.
If you can get one of these in good working order, get all over it. I've had the pleasure of using this lens for 16 years. The more I use it, the more I appreciate what this lens can do. One will have to get used to actually walking forward and backward to get one's shot. This little gem will get you shots which are incredibly sharp and crisp, or soft and bokey, in the most difficult lighting situations which we all get into in real life. I love this little Leica and have used it with the Leica R series bodies, where it can be used with the R's AE. I got an adapter to use the Leica R 50mm f2 with the Nikon bodies. I've had it on the F100,F6, D1, 2, 3s, 3x, 700, 810 and the D4's. It's all manual and it's totally worth it. I only have good things to say about this lens.

I got this lens (2cam Summicron) for my micro 4/3 camera. I had pictures in classic 70's colors when I chose +EV, and had deep tones when I chose -EV. Course I also had smearing bokeh. R-mount lenses are little bit large for my camera, but have great cost performance and work greatly. Totally nice.
The sharpest Leica R Mount lens ever produced.
