The Canon SD600 has a decent 6-meg image size, with a limited 3x zoom but 10 different exposure settings - auto, sunset, close, etc., even underwater (with housing). Outdoor shots are fine. We have three SD600 cameras which we use (with clamshell housing) to take kayaking on the water. If it gets damaged, well, they're inexpensive to replace. Fits in the pocket. The one issue that drives us nuts - the battery (lithium NB-4L, or similar) sometimes indicates there's no charge even when its come straight out of the charter. We have to pop it open to reseat the battery to make the connection.

I had had this camera for a few years and always loved it, when it broke (because my best friend fell down the stairs with it in her back pocket, not because of old age or anything) I couldn't justify buying a new camera for a lot more money rather than replacing a camera I already know I like for a lot less. I think the pictures are of good quality, and there is a good amount of features. Of course since the creation of this camera there has been quite a few more features added to cameras so to compare it to those available now I can't say the completely add up but there is definitely enough features for it to be worth while in my eyes. For the price you can buy these at now I think they are definitely worth it!
I bought this to replace one that I dropped out a 19th floor hotel balcony. It has a metal case and the one I dropped was still in one piece after landing on a gravel walk way. I thought this was quite impressive and had to find another one. Canon has improved the pixels and image stabilization in their newer models but they are in a plastic case. The video is the same in this model as in the newer ones. With a picture happy 3 year old, plastic doesn't appeal to me!
review for the camera in general NOT the seller or sellers item. i once had this same SD600 before and i bought another for the same price i once got it for. for around $20 this camera is pretty flat out amazing with photos even indoors with low lighting its not overly grainy on the exposure. colors come out vibrant and accurate as well. only flaw is the used one i got glitches some times. the screen overall isn't the best and scratches pretty easily and shows finger prints and isn't high res (photos look 10x better on a high res pc screen) battery life isn't phenomenal but with a few or a spare its enough to take the shots needed, assuming you use flash. outdoor shots are very clear, hardly yo no grain or static distortion and colors are very clear and life like. zoom capability is only 3x focused +digital zoom (which admit no one uses and is horrible) the video feature is nice, 640x480 at a 16:9 ratio looks almost HD 720P for clarity and at a full 30FPS looks smooth duuring playback. the high speed fast motion video mode is VERY fun cool and useful for doing stuff in fast/slow motion at a full 60FPS you can take some cool videos and slow them down to past 1/3 realtime with around 20fps playback and make some neat slow motion videos. flash isn't the best either but will be pretty effective up to maybe 8-10FT or so. the AF assistance beam built in REALLY helps get the lens 100% focused before each shot as well, especially helpful during close up macro shots where flash will not be used. though a nice feature is photo flash IS able to still be used while taking macro photos. a feature some other cameras i have owned, did not have. side downfall the remote lens operation via USB connection doesn't seem to work. all well, no stars lost still. also, the battery is external charge ONLY. kinda a shame but again no big deal personally, as batteries for this camera are easily available and very cheap. 5* camera for a bit higher end basic point and shoot. and for the price, you can't beat it. i also personally love its weight and feel, the high quality feel of the aluminum body and its weight gives it just the perfect standoff when holding single or dual handedly.Read full review
The price was right. I'd been shopping for one or two for months. The price was right, probably because the protective "shutters" don't close across the lens when not in use. I figure I can live with that. I don't really need this parti- cular camera, but I love it, and had already bought two for my wife (the first one went south in the commonest way; the lens stopped extending. But at my thrifty price, that's OK after a year.) The particular feature of this model is an old-fashioned viewfinder, lacking in most tiny digital cameras today. It has small size, a big and bright display window, sharp images, a surprisingly good movie mode for its size, and excellent controls, though these are not as easy to use as they might be. The one thing it lacks, compared to my previous favorite, the Optio S, is the ability to make long sound recordings, and without having to tie each sound recording to an image. For some kinds of things, you can find an absurdly low price if you have time and patience. And I offer a tribute to my fellow-members, and to the system, and say that I have rarely been disappointed when my Ebay purchase arrived, and only once had an "unpleasant experience" -- which on mature consideration I thought was due to misfortune that struck the seller. On the contrary, more than once a seller has done better by me than I had any right to expect.Read full review
This unit came with 2 batteries and a SD memory card. It worked right out of the box. I especially like the direct view viewfinder which allows me to find my subject in bright light (where the back screen display some times tends to be overwhelmed.

The Canon SD600 PowerShot Elph digital camera gives you a "Bang for Your Buck" for sure! This camera features and operating system software is just about as good you are going to find! The SD600 has "Great Razor Sharp Optics" that give digital images that will put a "Smile On Your Face!" Also, in my opinion when it comes to digital camera design, engineering and workmanship Canon is currently among the very top camera manufactures world wide! Personally, I have photographed literally thousands of photographs with a Canon SD600 and this camera been exceptionaly dependable and has captured exception digital images that cause many people to ask me what brand of camera I use! So, if you want a small camera that will out perform many larger more expensive digital cameras, then the Canon SD600 is for you!Read full review
I was absolutely thrilled to find this model still available...after having had a few years experience with earlier acquisitions of it...but with this new Elph having a mB more pixel capability than my earlier Elph's...calling it a "thrill" doesn't begin to describe my joy of possibly getting my hands on a piece of technology that didn't require a whole new learning curve to be able to use something that I already was very familiar with. The next challenge would be if this Elph would have the performance life of my earlier Elph's...would this seller live up to his(her?) reputation for providing the Canon quality I've become accustomed to...? Two months later...so far, I'm still thrilled...!
This camera works great, take fairly nice picture for the size. 6.0 mega pixel might sound a bit old age already, but I don't find it smart to have more than 10 mega pixel on such a small consumers' digital camera. Cause such a high resolution for small sized CCD will surely brings low sensitivity, and the pictures as a result would not look that good. As I often use my digital cameras indoors, I am concerned about sensitivity, and this camera works great! I love this one very much.
Love this camera, already had one but was very used. This one is great.
