This is a decent lens, but not among the best Minolta made. Mine was soft compared to my 35mm f/2, but then the 28 f/2.8 was originally an under $100 lens in the early 1990's, and the 35mm sold for $400, so you would expect a difference in quality. A warning about the eBay stock picture. The image is not of the Maxxum mount lens, it is the Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AF lens. The Maxxum mount lens does not have white writing the way the Nikon lens does. Just a warning for anyone relying on the image to list or buy the lens. Update: Perhaps I was too hard on this lens. Out of curiosity I bought two more for testing. One was the same as mine - a bit soft, especially at the edges, and the other, well, the other was really good. This is a lesson in sample variation and the problem with used lenses. Some are good, and some less so, even when dealing with the same brand and model. Of course I am keeping the really good one. And you as a buyer don't know which type you are getting - an average or poor sample, or a really excellent variant, until you test it yourself.Read full review
Excellent performer. Fast AF. sharp in the center at all apertures. Corners sharp by f4.5. No color fringing, no flare even without a hood. Excellent sharpness and resolution allow this lens to be used bot as 24mm and as 28mm (with edge cropping) while still allowing excellent 16x20 inch enlargement. Lightweight and low progile - can be used ion both A-series cameras and with autofocus adapter on Sony E-series cameras, . Sharp enough to provide excellent equivalent of 36mm on APS size sony camera such as A6000, a6300, a6500. Can be left on the camera all the time.

The lens is compact and light, with good picture, starting f3.5 till f16. Nice bokeh, usable minimal focus distance, and convenient angle for FF and APS-C matrix cameras. Lens for every day using. Much sharper than Minolta AF28-105 f 3.5-4.5 on F28 mm focus distance (short line). You may need a micro-adjustment of focus for SONY A-series using. Good quality for this price!

This little lens is excellent for both indoor and outdoor photography. It's inexpensive, and with an aperture of f2.8, it's plenty for most low light situations. I use it for landscapes, group portraits, and indoor photography. It's an excellent prime lens for the money.

The lense I purchase works satisfactorily with my Maxxum 7D camera. The lense didn't appear to have any fungus or scratches but both exposed lenses had fingerprints on the lense.

I love prime lenses, unfortunately this did not work with my Sony Alpha. I am not a lens expert and at first I thought the odd picture might be from haze or the result of the deteriorating UV coating. I believe upon some research there appears to be what's known as heavy vignetting and the center appeared overexposed and looked hazy (I had it on multi-segment metering). I am not sure if this would improve with through the center metering, but you would still be left with pronounced dark edges all around the center. Might be good if you want some kind of art effect, but not good for most shooting.
Nice. Caps don't fit well.

I needed this lens as I gave my old one to my daughter. ALL Minolta equipment, in my opinion, is great quality and with average care will last a lifetime. Great pictures and will fit my Sony too.
Lens is sharp and good focus very easy to use
