Loved this movie since it came out in '87. Some ultra-graphic violent scenes, all are still photos, though. Woods carries his intensity into this role, the cop hungry to find the serial killer that no one else in his department believes to exist. Lesley Ann Warren is a jarring, mis-cast flop in her role; I try to fast-forward through her scenes. Also, the cliché of the cops wife who calls him "sick" and says he needs a shrink when he is just doing his job is whiny, played out, and excruciating to listen to again and again. In the sleazy locales of LA in which this movies takes place, the people Woods has to deal with are the sickies, not him. Cops like Woods' "Lloyd Hopkins" should be getting commendations daily for the work they take on. Action, surprise twists, and a screech-to-a-halt finalé make this one a long-time favourite.Read full review
The movie is entertaining, and full of thrills. It is at its best when Leslie Ann Warren enters the movie about a third of the way into it. The end of the movie is GREAT!

Great movie. James Woods at his best.

I have the VHS version of this movie, but want to switch over to DVD. This is one of James Woods best performances. The story explores a more seedy side to a cops' life. Supporting cast and crew are great too. It's right up there with "Sea of Love". Don't miss it.
