    • Northwest by Dead

Well I broke down and bought this. This is a very good snapshot of the 73-74 period. Disk 3 is a keeper for sure. There was some question and comments on the Bird Song from this disc set. I played it and here is my best description I can give of the anomaly: During the second verse, during the vocals trailing into the instrumental jam it sounds like the source tape was damaged or stretched. It sounds like a wow and flutter noise for about >20 sec. I recommend this for someone that wants a taste of 74.

    • The sound of Phil's bass!

Great versions of Dead tunes, and Phil's bass is very prominent and up front throughout - more so than on most live Dead recordings. Great sound. The caterwahling by Donna on the 45 min version of PITB is atrocious - just skip over that and you'll be fine.

    • North west shows but condensed to three discs.

3 discs of the choicest cuts. No huge box the size of a coffee table. I want the music and not the box and book. This was perfect for me.

    • The Wall of Sound Astounds

If you like the 73/74 Wall of Sound era, this set is a terrific snapshot. The versions of Bird Song and Here Comes Sunshine are rightly celebrated, and available here in wonderful sound quality. The vocals are not always spot on, but this set is all about the jams! Highly recommended.

    • Great set of CD’s . Great sound quality.

Fantastic sound quality. Three CD set is surely worth the cost for any Grateful Dead fan, or if you’re a first timer. Feel the vibe!
