I guess it's the real deal. I fitted into the ASUS motherboard without any issue and the BIOS/Windows detect it without any problem. However the firmware is outdated and Windows gave a warning on it. It's using Infineon chip. ASUS itself doesn't release any firmware update for it. After searching the web for a while, I found a solution for it. I can't place the URL in this review, so just google for Asus-Infineon-TPM-firmware-update and look for post #41.

As it did give me additional security, BUT took a lot of tweaking as this computer is used for many tasks, and I found it took some time to get settings right. I have disabled it and removed it as at times Bit-locker slowed me DOWN. The module worked fine it was Bit-locker and its security that slowed me down. Would work well in a network of computers using Group policy.
