A really great buy and affordable too! Make sure you have it plugged into a real USB 3.0 port, some systems don't label them correctly and you will be limited to 60mb/s due to USB 2.0 transfer modes. With USB 3.0 I was getting 140mb/s and have already put 2TB of data on the drive without a fault. Defragmentation takes 2 hours when it is 50% fragmented due to the size and 5900RPM speed. It is quiet unless it is put under full speed load.

I have three of these boys. Two purchased in 2015, one in 2016. Non have failed yet, so in terms of their reliability, they have passed the test of time. The drive gets extremely hot during file writing so I would not recommend using it as 24/7 NAS solution. But the drive is great for archival backups, what the drive is really designed for. Magnetic shingling technology used in the drive slows down it's read/write speeds so don't expect the drive to be as fast as traditional USB 3 hard drive. you still get average 70-80 MBps write speed depending on files type you are backing up. But at $25 per Terabyte I paid for it back then I could not find a better value for the money. Now in 2019 it is even cheaper. So far I am a happy owner of Seagate Backup Plus 8 Tb external hard drives.

Really nice all around!! Fast, quiet and unobtrusive on your desktop. There is a great deal of peace of mind knowing your backed up locally and need not rely on external sources. Many thanks.
