But it is damn close! GraphTech's TUSQ material is a "tuned" high pressure laminate that is molded to shape. By tuned, I mean it's similar to a piece of tone wood. If you were to drop a GraphTech nut onto a hard surface, it actually rings a note just like a tone wood does when you hammer tap it. Bone, on the other hand, just goes thud as does plastic, Corrian, Ebanol, Micarta and the entire plethora of other string nut materials! It is, and aways will be, debatable which material is better. Nubone is simply a derivative of GraphTech's TUSQ (not TUSQ XL), It does NOT have Teflon impregnated into it like TUSQ XL does. Since it is a proprietary material, it is hard to say exactly what the chemical difference is that makes it less expensive. I will say it seems to file and sand as easily as TUSQ and the sound quality seem the same. It even makes a note when you drop it. Heck, maybe it is the same as TUSQ and it's just all marketing. Who knows? Nubone works fine and is a good alternate fot TUSQ or any of the Tone Ninja products, please take my word.Read full review

i put this on my old '69 unisex lespaul jr copy . this wa about the 5 or 6 th nut i've put on it . away better than the plastic ones . i noticed more sustain . there is a bit of sanding to get the right eighth , but that goes with any replacement nut . string spacing is right on . I plan on getting some more for my other guitars .
