Volume 2 includes coverage of organic redox reactions, aliphatic syntheses, conjugated unsaturated systems, aromatic systems, pericylic reactions, nucleophilic addition and substitution at the acyl carbon, enolates, C-13 NMR, an extensive review of nomenclature and brief coverage of mass spectroscopy and UV/Vis spectroscopy.Coverage of aliphatic synthesis includes a summary of all the reactions shown in the two volumes and gives several examples of how to put these together in multi-step syntheses. Coverage of aromatic reactions includes in-depth analysis of the electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism, the effect of different substituents on the EAS mechanism, the two different types of nucleophilic aromatic reactions and summaries and examples for aromatic syntheses.Coverage of the nucleophilic addition and substitution at the acyl carbon, like coverage of all the other reactions in the volumes is extremely clear and well-organized, showing the different variations of these reactions in a specific, easy-to-understand progression. The same thing can be said for coverage of enolate ions and enols and their reactions. All mechanisms are color coded so that you can keep track of the atoms in the reaction. Coverage of nomenclature includes of a review of introductory nomenclature, nomenclature of dienes, aromatic compounds, carbonyl compounds, and carboxyl compounds and their derivatives. Coverage of nomenclature ends with an explanation of how to determine the priority of different functional groups in order to name multifunctional compounds.The end of most chapters contains a compilation of the summary of all the reactions in the chapter. This volume includes extensive coverage of C-13 NMR spectroscopy with an emphasis on both theory of NMR and on how to interpret the C-13 NMR Spectra of Organic Compounds. C-13 NMR spectra for all common classes of organic compounds are shown. The book does include some repetition of material, since the author believes that repetition is necessary to learn concepts. The summaries at the end of each chapter are a repetition of what was taught earlier in the chapter that can be used as a study guide. The reason that this book is split into two volumes is the fact that it exceeds the maximum page length for a book distributed by Amazon.com. The author tried to split the book in such a way that the topics usually covered in the first semester organic chemistry course are in the first volume while the topics usually covered in the second semester organic chemistry course are in the second volume.Perfect for studying for the MCAT, PCAT and other pre-professional exams.Note that the page numbering for Volume 2 ends where Volume 1 left off.
