Best SAK model for pocket carry/EDC
I've EDC'd (Every Day Carry) a pocket knife since I was a young buck and several models of SAKs have been favorites. While I prefer the S18 model for the locking blade mechanism, many would feel it unnecessary in a small knife, would prefer the smoother profile of the non-locking version, and would save the extra few dollars. Best thing about this Evogrip model is that it's a hybrid between the Wenger (original) design and Victorinox, who bought Wenger a few years back. This version has four tools upgraded (imo) by the Victorinox versions offering the better can opener, awl, toothpick, and tweezers. The rest are the original Wenger tools. One hidden feature is the flathead screwdriver which has a locking mechanism, unlike the Victorinox, but has no half-stop position. Most SAK's ... Most SAK's force you to choose between the scissors and saw; this has both. It is smaller than a std SAK at 84mm instead of 91mm, and rides effortlessly in front pocket of jeans or dress slacks. The textured rubber grips on the scales are inlayed and very ergonomic. Also love the unique yellow color. This is a great way to have a small tool box in your pocket without noticing. It's a perfect compromise between multi-tool and pocket knife. The small screwdriver on the can opener doubles as a 2D Phillips. Of course, the main blade gets used the most but, in the first month of owning this model, I'd had an occasion to use every tool on it, even the nail file which I thought I'd never need (sharp burr on a plastic toy). I probably own more than a half-dozen SAK's but this one sits in my pocket even as I type this. I think it is the best model for EDC for people who want one pocket knife whether they're at the office or working around the back yard.

My all-time favorite SAK (Swiss Army Knife), by far!
When I bought this knife (about a week ago), I did so because I was looking for a piece of gear with a _slightly_ smaller size than my ALOX Farmer, but which still had the folding saw feature, which I’ve used more times than I can count. (And, okay, I also thought the yellow-and-black color scheme was pretty cool!) When it arrived, I was surprised at how much thicker it is than my other SAKs, but I figured I’d give it the benefit of the doubt and tossed it in my front pocket to see if I could get used to it. A few hours later, a box of new smock jackets arrived, each with a manufacturer’s label attached (with those hard plastic strings with the little T-shaped ends on them), and since they were a bit thicker than usual, I couldn’t just pull them apart, so I reached for my new SAK’s ... The next morning, an shipping crate arrived, wrapped in heavy plastic strapping tape, and out came the saw — and inside, the parts I’d ordered were surrounded by multiple layers of poly film, all of which was cut easily by the knife. And this morning, I caught a thumbnail on something, which left me with a jagged corner — not a big deal for most folks, but I’m a medical massage therapist, so a jagged nail would be a serious issue for the patients I help — and once again, this knife was Johnny on the Spot! So, is it a little thicker than I’m used to carrying? Yes. But do the tools that make up that added bulk actually make sense and earn their keep? Absolutely! So, done deal - this one’s staying put in my front pocket! P. S.: That said, I do have one major criticism about this model — or, at least, the specific unit that I received — and that is that the Quality Control guy at the factory must have been on his coffee break when this one came down the chute, because the edges of both of the plastic bolsters and all of the aluminum separators between the various steel components were so sharp that I cut myself on one of them before I ever got to open a single tool on it! As a longtime craftsman, I just grabbed a needle file and rounded off as many of the edges as I could reach without gouging the knife and other tools, in the process, but that isn’t a task I’ve ever had to do with a major name brand tool like a Victorinox. Over the course of the last 20 years, I have probably owned 30-40 Wenger and Victorinox SAK’s — and sold, traded or given away most of ‘em as presents (though I probably still have half a dozen of them in various drawers, jackets and backpacks around the house) — and this is the only time I’ve ever had to “finish” one of their tools. I don’t know if that says anything about the company or if I just got “a Friday car”, but I think it bears mentioning, just the same. Still a great multi-tool, but yours may need a little “finessing”.
