Reviews
"Absolutely grossing reading...I loved every minutiae of it. I recommend it to all with a bent ear." -- Pinchas Zukerman "As with all of Peter Schickele's musical musings, this is superb humor reflecting a boundless knowledge of the world of music." -- Victor Borge An "eminently readable and vastly enjoyable book." -- Isaac Stern "But how can I explain to outsiders the humor so delicate, the mirth evanescent, the je ne sais quoi of this handsome and hilarious book?" -- Christopher Lehmann-Haupt, The New York Times

  • The Definitive Biography of P. D. Q. Bach, 1807-1742?

P.D.Q. Bach is credited with composing some amazing music, like "The Echo Sonata for Two Unfriendly Groups of Instruments" and "The Unbegun Symphony." This funny bio of the non-existent Baroque composer made me laugh when it came out 20+ years ago. I finally decided to get my own copy, mostly for the hilarious illustrated examples of his sheet music. My teenage son laughed as much as I did, so this work clearly has lasting value. I've met the author Peter Schickele a few times and seen several concert performances of this music. Find the albums and enjoy yourself. Then read this delightful book for the rest of the story.
