great music, but a littlle more sedate than I like
I purchased this DVD because I enjoyed Yusuf's cd "An Other Cup". While I greatly enjoyed the music, which was almost identical to what came out of the studio, I was disappointed with the energy level of the performance. Porchester Hall was transformed into, what appeared to be, a Turkish coffeehouse or cafe. It was very well done. As Cat Stevens, Yusuf put a great deal of energy into his performances and I was hoping for more of the same. It seemed at times that he truly wanted to "rock out" a little bit, I wish he had. You can tell he is moved by the music and the words he is singing, but just won't quite let go. Maybe his religion has something to do with it, I don't know. The audience, too, was reserved. Could that have been requested? All I can say is if I had been there I ... I purchased this DVD because I enjoyed Yusuf's cd "An Other Cup". 28 Years Later, More Mature, Lacks Nothing. PRICELESS!
This is the same man, grown and mature, but still just as passionate and capable a performer as ever. The venue itself is rich and richly decorated, the band is tight... new songs, old songs, style... like being there at the show, maybe even better! Yusuf Islam, Cat Stevens, whichever way you remember him, he remains an incomparable singer/songwriter/artist and I'm very glad we got the chance to see and hear his amazing talent. It's certainly a gift, and one he shares with us all through this most excellent DVD.This is the same man, grown and mature, but still just as passionate and capable a performer as ever. The venue itself is rich and richly decorated, the band is tight... new songs, old songs, style... like being there at the show, maybe even better! I'm an avid fan, as a teen I scarified up all the Cat Stevens vinyl available. As technology progressed I upgraded my collection to cassette, CD's and now his oldies are ’s on my IPod. When I saw this first new release in 26 years I was all over it… My take, this work was not what one would expect from an aged, fine wine. His creativity, energy and lyric genius have somehow separated from him.I'm an avid fan, as a teen I scarified up all the Cat Stevens vinyl available. Thank Allah He's back!!!! It dosen't get any better than this, he has outdone himself!!This cd is probably as good as anything else he has done and maybe even better for us soul searchers!!!I hope more is on the way, I will be first in line to buy it!!!
