Handy to carry and very easy to use.
These things work great. With some magnesium shavings and a little tinder of pine needles and dried leaves, I almost started my deck on fire.

Nice little tool
This is a great design with the striker built in to the handle and is deployed easily by pushing it out of its slot. The striker itself is four sided and concave curvature that bites the rod well and throws awesome spark showers. Another plus is it is small and light weight for those counting ounces and into light weight hiking and back packing. However The actual ferrocerium rod is rather small for this being their XL version. You can buy a lot larger rods and strikers for about the same price as this one or less. So for the small rod size, I think it should be priced accordingly and should sell for around $12-$13. Though I like this fire tool, I won't purchase another one until they make one with a larger rod that can truly be considered an XL or drop the over all price to reflect the ... Striker problem
The design is great, light, compact, looks nice. The ferret rod is supurb, but the striker material is wrong. The striker on mine does not make a spark. It only scrapes off material from the rod. A piece of hacksaw blade fixes the proble. Now it works great. With this slight mod it's a great product.
