  • No Executive Meddling In This Story

Unlike the adaptation, this book has many things it missed. It has a steady pace, great character development, a thorough reveal, events that the author allows your mind to picture, and it doesn't follow the morality the adaptation follows when it comes to good and bad. Perfect book worth picking up.

  • Great book for fans of film noir

After seeing last year's movie about this case, I wanted to read James Ellroy's book. I loved his description of Los Angeles after the war and the well thought out plot based on the actual case file. I read it in one evening and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I got caught up in the sad story of this young girl's murder and and also in the story of the policemen trying to solve her murder. It is a haunting experience.

  • Disappointed

I saw the movie and I wanted to read the book to see how much it was like the movie. I could barely get through the first 20 pages. There was too much 40's and boxing jargon that I didn't understand.
