Excellent condition but the test firing had issues

When I first got the flash, the speed light would turn on and fire the flash but when I press the grey button on the back of the speed light head for test firing to see how light would project than it did not fire its impulses for test firing. I was confused because I don’t why it was not working. After several more shots with regular flash firing than I tried the impulse test firing button on the back of the speed light head. By my surprise, the impulse firing started working and the theory for causing the problem is maybe the speed light has not been used for a long time and the capacitor needed charging for it to work again by some dumb luck. I did need a manual that I could get from the Internet so I could learn how to use it. This speed light is a gift for my fiancé’s birthday on ...

  • SB-80dx Nikon Speedlight

Best bang for the buck! You won’t get the modern features like iTTL. BUT you still get auto and manual modes. Take it off camera and it’s a punchy quality strobe. Great for creative lighting. Great for learning off camera lighting. And they’re a fraction of the price of a modern speedlight. Love this flash!

  • A savvy Strobist can never have too many of these babies!

A smart strobist can never have too many of these flashes! They are the most robust, rock-solid flash that are still cheap and have both a PC sync port and a metal hotshoe, which are two features you really need in a "workhorse" remote wireless flash. Sure, there are more affordable units out there nowadays, but they are either cheap-o build quality, and/or they have no PC sync port or, of course, the dreaded plastic hotshoe. (Nikon SB24 SB28 etc. series) In a pinch, as a bonus you can pop one of these on your camera and use it as a pretty reliable on-camera flash too. Oh, and the 1/3 stop power increments that go all the way down to 1/128 is a nice bonus, plus the idiot-proof custom menu. (Unlike the Canon flash custom menus, which are just a bunch of 0's and ...

  • Great flash

Easy, light weight, consistent, versatile. No slave functionality although.

  • great in manual / auto mode. if you do need TTL with a DSLR this works

extremely well built flash. has metal foot, and quick lock lever. Great flash to use in manual or auto mode with a DSLR. has optical trigger so multiple flashes can be used wirelessly (although in manual or auto mode). I use it with my Sony mirrorless. Smaller than the SB26, which I have as well.
