    My favorite Nikon

    I bought my first Nikon, an F with a Photomic finder, in 1967 and used it and a couple of Leica IIIC's freelancing for local newspapers in Atlanta. In June of 1972, I traded the F plus another one I'd acquired and both of the Leica's for two Nikon F2's, one with the MD1 motor drive and one without. I later added an MD2 motor drive to the 2nd F2 and those where what paid my way through college. I still have the F2 with the MD1, along with the 50mm/f1.4 non-ai Nikkor lens that came with it, and except for light seals and an occasional CLA, that camera has never been in the shop. I currently have 16 "F" series Nikons from F's to F5's, along with a couple of dozen other Nikons and a number of medium format cameras from the studio days, but if I had to choose just one camera to keep, it ...

    Beautiful Classic

    I have had several film SLRs in the past. The Nikon F2 is a classic. The manufacture is of the highest standard. Additionally, I think its metering system may be superior to other consumer Nikon SLRs of its era. Personally, I feel it is better than the FE and FA, despite the latter having a 5-segment matrix exposure system. For some reason, the photos taken with the F2 appears richer in color than with the FE/FA. I use Fuji slide film in all three cameras when comparing. The DP12 prismatic head could be purchased separately (mine came with the DP11), and it has an even better metering system. Amazing for a 70's technology system! I have both the DP11 and DP12. You must try it to see it for yourself.

    Nikion F2A "The Old Reliable"

    Bought this unit to replace one I lost in a water several years ago. This camera was 100% spot on, all the speeds and settings worked great.

    Probably the best camera Nikon ever made.

    This is my second F2 Photomic. These cameras are a wonder to handle. They are "old school." Made out of metal and all manual. In the hands of a skilled photographer it is the equivalent of the brush of an artist or the scapel of a surgeon. With one pull of the shutter cock you will be hooked after feeling the silky smoothness of the ball bearing supported film transport. My preference is for the F2A. The bodies are the same on the F2. It is the viewfinder that makes the difference and they are interchangable. The Photomic came with the DP1 finder. The F2A came with the later and more user friendly DP11 finder. If you have any intention of shooting film, get one of these, The F2A is arguably the ultimate manual film camera.
