The Last Camel Charge: The Untold Story of America's Desert Military Experiment by Forrest Bryant Johnson is an excellent history of a unique early military experiment. The book is very well written and has very worthwhile supporting documentation. The book also includes informative maps, drawings and photographs that aid the reader in better understanding the material that is covered. This book is a MUST HAVE for any Western, U.S. Military historian or Historic Archaeologist doing research of the time period covered. Individuals wishing to know more about the lives and experiences of Civil War figures, both North & South 'before' the war are encouraged to read this book. Civil War historians & collectors whose focus is in the Trans-Mississippi Department of the Confederacy or the Vicksburg Campaign will find this publication a great addition to their research library. Over and above it's great historic narrative and research aid, it is a well written book that is fun to read. Once I began reading and completed Chapter 1, I could not put it down until I completed it. The Last Camel Charge is well worth the purchase price and the time spent reading it. Don't take my word for it. Get a copy and read it. The book is really quite good!!!Read full review
