Saw Havana a long time ago and wanted to see it again. It is not on Netflix, Amazon or Prime. Ebay is my go to for those hard to find items. This movie is a love story about how much a man will do to get the one he loves.

Movie is very slow moving and lethargic. Takes forever to get to the obvious conclusion. NOTHING but NOTHING like "Casablanca" despite what the critics say. Sorry but even Redford's voice and charm was able to save this plote.

It was Christmas, 1958. The Key West Ferry will be in Havana in the morning. Havana, just ninety miles from the U.S. The "Pearl of the Antilles", "Paris of the Caribbean", a place where the lights in the Prado never go out, and you just might have the time of your life! The finest entertainment, great food, sex, and the chance to win a fortune in the finest casinos in the Caribbean all await you. Jack Wile (Robert Redford)is on that ferry. He is chasing his dream, the "Big Game", high-stakes poker, with the kind of players who don't even think about how much money is at stake. Here he meets Roberta Duran (Lena Olin), a beautiful woman who offers him $800 to drive her car off the ferry in Havana. Intrigued by her offer, he agrees and becomes unwittingly entangled in a revolution and torrid romance. Director Sydney Pollack masterfully weaves this thread of high-stakes poker, political corruption, revolution, and romance into the fabric of a very enjoyable story. The cast of actors includes Alan Arkin, Richard Farnsworth, Raul Julia, Thomas Milian, Tony Plana, and many others. This feature was filmed in the Florida Keys, and in Puerto Rico, and contains quite a few very nice Caribbean scenes along with a great musical score.Read full review
High stakes poker player Jack Well played by Robert Redford (The Last Castle, The Natural, Three Days of the Condor, etc) is looking to make a buck in pre-revolutionary Havana before Castro takes over. When beautiful Bobby Duran played by Lena Olin (Awake, The Ninth Gate, TV series ALIAS seasons 2-3-4-5, etc) asks Well to help her smuggle contraband, he has no idea she is married to the well-known communist revolutionary Arturo Duran (Raul Julia). When the police take Arturo away, Bobby is immediately drawn to Well. Although he wants to help her-he also wants his one big score too and can not forget the money. Sydney Pollack (Michael Clayton, Made of Honor, The Interpreter, Independents Day, etc) directs this piece in his usual excellent manner and weaves a suspenseful drama plotting the love for the woman and the love of money question that faces Redford. For Drama lovers, Action and adventure devotees and students of history, this movie will more than give you a full night of entertainment. If you have watched and enjoyed the movie CUBA with Sean Connerly--you will enjoy this one also. A very good movie that most people will enjoy-even enjoyees of romantics will find a good plot in the desires between Olin and Redford. Acting is first rate and this movie was a deserving Academy Awards Nominee in 1990-Good movie overall.Read full review
