Older camcorder that still functions well. Recording heads, pinch rollers are holding up. It plays back and records, the rewind is a bit slow on these older camcorders. The flip out screen surprisingly is holding up well, slight sag but to be expected, the viewfinder is a bit clunky but image shows up. The filter threads were little dirty, was able to screw on a fisheye lens without issues. Came with the larger Sony battery that is holding up well and a duo charger port. No DC power cable. Overall solid camcorder - Came in well packed with bubble wrap, and in a carrying bag. Seller gave a good price and held their end of the deal. Thanks!

This is a higher end Hi8 Sony camcorder that was introduced in 1998 and carried an MSRP of $1599.00!!!. This camcorder features a 15X Optical Zoom and a large 4" Color TFT LCD fold-out display screen. It also has a lot of manual controls to adjust the exposure and scene modes to compensate for many different indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. This camcorder is powered by the famed Infolithium L battery system. It's really nice to know exactly how much time in battery life is remaining with a real-time readout of minutes displayed on the screen and/or viewfinder. . In addition to being able to playback your recorded Hi8 tapes, you can also use the camcorder as a VTR and record directly from any video source, like a VCR or any A/V device that has RCA connections. Sony doesn't build them like this any more. One can make the argument that the build quality for sony Hi8 camcorders in 1998 is much better than the Hi8 camcorders that were designed and built in the last few years. Better quality motors, beefier tape transports, 5 head tape head systems and higher end components were used in the late nineties to establish and later reinforce Sony’s leadership position in selling consumer Hi8 camcorders. The pricing on these camcorders reflected the quality of the components used on this camcorder. . It can even pass for one of those high-end Sony Video Walkman units that sell for ridiculous prices on Ebay. I'm talking $350.00 to $800.00 for a Sony GV-A500 Video Walkman which has very similar specs to this camcorder. This camcorder can pretty much do what a Video Walkman (Play back Hi8 and 8mm Pre-recorded tapes on-the-go) can do AND it also can record video high quality Hi8 movies to boot.Read full review
Great retro 8mm tape camcorder it has built in lense cover, wide side screen, TBC and DNR. TBC is unstable but it has TBC anyway. you can use 8mm tape and Hi8 tape both.

This is my second one. The other one was so good I wanted to find another just like it. The quality and price were good, and shipped great. The zoom on this camera is great and I have a wide angle lens for it to use inside, and out.
It plays regular Video8 and Hi8 8mm tapes, so you can watch your old home videos, or convert/transfer them to a more current media. It has an oversized 4" color LCD flipscreen to make it easier to watch your recorded tapes right on the camcorder or to see what you're trying to record.
