I found this book using ebay. I specifically went to ebay looking for a used copy of the book. I bought this book as a gift for my older sister who remembered the original from her childhood. She loves the book and has already used it twice in preparation of deserts from the 1950's. It isn't often that a younger brother can purchase something that makes an older sister that happy.

I have bought several Betty Crocker Picture Cook Books on E Bay, I started when I had an inspired idea for Christmas gifts, for my children, and friends. E bay enabled me to purchase these books at an effordable price. (well below buying from a book store). These books are old school and tell you how to reaaly cook, I mean cook with basic ingredients (not out of a box), Meals prepared this way taste like the meals mom used to make. Every one that recieved this book was very pleased and I keep getting cudos for the gift. I recomend these cook books for personal use and as gifts.
It may be a basic cookbook, but there are some gems in there. Not only is the 1950's writing often really amusing, but the recipes are indeed tried and true. We are experienced home cooks, but this book has actually taught us a thing or two. An example: We have been unable to purchase a particular brand of Honey Bran Muffin Mix and we miss it. Hidden in the book is a recipe for "Graham Gems". Lo and Behold, the graham flour is the secret to recreating the recipe we have loved. So even though some of the recipes are hilariously dated and the stereotypes about home making abound, it's still a really excellent cookbook. Nothing cutting edge, but solid recipes and good technique.
