Great, very power efficient, SSD. Highly recommended for laptops.
Performs well, and is the perfect laptop hard drive because of its very low power consumption. Although I like Samsung or WD for desktops where power is not an issue, the Hynix P31 uses WAY less power, stays cool, and has notably better laptop battery life.
I have used various Samsung's, and WD Blacks (which are also a good compromise on performance vs. power use), but the Hynix excels at good performance and extremely low power consumption.
Although I have not measured and compared exact temperatures, it certainly does not get hot like the Samsung's when in hard use, yet is not notably slower in real world applications.
Have had no install or performance issues whatsoever with the Hynix P31 (Gen 3, 1TB). Does exactly what you need, and does it using less power than its competitors.
The Hynix P31 is Highly recommended for lap top use if battery performance matters to you.
My favorite SSD's by use:
- Desktop with smaller regular file transfers: Samsung EVO Plus or WD Black.
- Destop with large regular file transfers: Samsung 970 PRO (MLC is still significantly
faster (no post cache drop off) and more consistent - particularly on the write side - with large
file transfers or regular drive clones). I have not tried a 980 Pro, as sadly, it is not MLC and in
my opinion should not carry the Pro label.
- Laptop where battery life is not a significant concern: WD Black
- Laptop where battery life is a priority: Hynix Gold P31 !!!
And with all SSD's I always recommend 1TB or larger.
