About this product

Product Information

Mother 3 was developed by renowned producer Shigesato Itoi for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Work through eight chapters in this role-playing game to free the Nowhere Islands from the forces of the Pigmask Army. Similar to many of the Nintendo console games, it features a top-down view and turn-based battles. Players make their way through a variety of rural and city landscapes battling armies and searching for useful items. On this journey, there are many friendly non-playable characters to talk to, each one offering advice or anecdotes. Also known as "Earthbound 2," this game is the sequel to the beloved initial story from the SNES Gameboy era. "Mother 3" improves upon the beginning version. Better graphics, smoother gameplay, and the same great sound design are here that made "Earthbound" so popular. Lighthearted story notes reach a blaring crescendo as the game ramps up to its final moments. A big reveal with connections back to the first "Earthbound" is sure to leave fans in tears. This release in the series takes place on Nowhere Island, a secluded refuge for people fleeing the destruction of earth. Players must band together in order to restore good to its rightful place and banish evil from the land forever. Humor features heavily in the Mother 3 script, as a group of kids take on a cast of wacky monsters and bosses. Witty dialogue and attacks are sure to leave players in stitches. The writing in "Mother 3" is top-notch, and the story itself is filled with detail and nuances. The main character's journey is not just a quest to save the world. This is a quest to discover something about himself that he may have been better off not knowing.Combat takes place in the turn-based style, with players selecting actions for their party while the enemy takes its turn. Special items, magic, defensive abilities, and more must be used to their fullest in order to succeed. Enemies take advantage of weaknesses in the player's party and use a wide variety of abilities to challenge the player. As with "Earthbound," hostile NPCs found in "Mother 3" have their own unique and quirky humor in this video game. Not for the faint of heart, "Mother 3" will take all of your skills and wits in order to beat it. A melodic score can be found in "Mother 3," aiding players on a roller-coaster ride with fantastic highs and tearful lows. Fun sequences are perfectly accompanied by appropriately tuned music, while deadly serious events will play notes to instill an emotional response. The graphics look gorgeous on the GBA. Fantastic effects and detailed battle sequences take place in a variety of detailed locations that any fan of the franchise will be sure to love. This Gameboy Advance offering was originally released in Japan. The game was also originally released in the Japanese language only.

Great game. I'd buy the official version if Nintendo would release it in English.

Great game, deep story. Looks and sounds amazing for a Game Boy Advance game. Gameplay is solid, refining what made up it's predecessors. Battles go by fast (most of the time.) And the battle system is kept from getting old due to having a system where combos can be performed by pressing the a button with the songs beat. Though I can see why Nintendo hasn't released it in the west (controversial topics, extremes Nintendo hasn't gone to in the west.) But if they'd take a chance I'm sure it would sell well.

  • The definitive way to play MOTHER 3 in English

Mother 3 is one of the greatest rpg’s to ever be released on the GBA. It contains compelling gameplay, beautiful graphics and a wonderful story. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing the game has never officially been released outside of japan (fingers crossed for a switch port 😝). Luckily, the wonderful folks at MOTHER3.FOBBY.NET went through the entire game and translated every bit of text. Using this translation many high quality reproduction carts have been made over the years including the one I purchased from river city retro. The cart is nearly indistinguishable from actual GBA carts. The only difference I can pick up on is that the cart is a tad too tall but thats just me nitpicking. I’ve tested the cart on all the equipment I have and it has worked flawlessly on all of it ...

  • One of the best stories in gaming

“Mother” really is the perfect name for this game—but not because mothers play a large role in the story, but rather that their absence does. More than anything else, Mother 3 is an exploration about the loss of a mother and how that one act topples the lives of all those connected like a series of dominoes. The young boy Claus ventures into the wild to kill the T-Rex-like creatures he feels are responsible for killing his mother; and then he disappears. With the loss of a wife and son, Flint spends his days in the wild looking for his missing son. And the remaining son, Lucas, grows up shy and alone—yet self-sufficient.

  • Great Translation for a Great Sequel!

I got this for my brother who is a big fan of the Earthbound / Mother series, and he has spent many a day playing it. This translation is very well done and the game plays just like the original released in Japan, making for a rather great port. In general, Mother 3 matches up well to the others in the series with a great story, a rather jamming soundtrack, and the quirky sense of humor you do not find in most games these days. (I've been told the difficulty is equal to that of Earthbound/Mother 2).

  • Excellent build and works great!

This repro is, unfortunately, the only way we're going to be able to get an English release of this game, but I'm not complaining. The quality of the work on both the translation and the cart rivals anything that would have been officially produced. The compelling story is what made me want this (and I had already played it through twice before making this purchase to have a physical copy.)
