Pimp your arcade machine out.
If you're looking for that authentic arcade experience.. this is the real deal. If you're looking at this I can almost read your mind.. you're workong on a home arcade project and probably a arcade1up or other prebuild setup, Sit down and lets talk. Although not the most robust (metal thickness) i've seen, This is more than enough for a home arcade. I bought 2, one to go on a arcade1up mod and the other for a future project. The finish is nice, I think it's powder coat which is what a lot of new doors come with. It should be a pretty tough finish and last a life time in a gentle use enviroment. It's a semi gloss finish.. around the hinge both of my doors have a bit of a dullness to them.. it's not a big deal though. Both of my doors came with the same key.. im not sure if this was the ... Speaking of which.. they only give you 1 key per door.. I realy would have liked to have seen 2 keys. Anyway, I had trouble getting the cam to line up tight with the door frame.. no matter which way I flipped it.. I ended up fixing with a heavy duty rubber washer. .. at first I thought maybe my set was missing a part but I had the same problem with both door locks. I'd like to think I am handy enough to figure it out on my own and did'nt miss something obvious.. but.. There where no instructions included to check either. This is not a big deal as it's going into a home arcade but if this was being put into a retail location I wouldn't have been too happy about it. Then again these doors even the best made ones aren't realy that secure anyway. The door and frame is metal pretty much everything else is plastic.. but it feel sturdy enough. I don't even really mind the bezels being plastic although I do wish the coin return tray flapper was metal. the plastic flapper just doesn't swing the same.. I think it's cause it's not as heavy as a metal one. Not a big deal though you could always swap a metal one in there if you fancy it as the door seem to use standard parts. Im thinking about gluing a steel washer to the back of the flapper to give it weight.. not sure if that will work or not. The door comes with everything you need to start muching on quarters.. well.. kinda.. it does not come with lighting or even a lamp holder/socket. so if you want to illuminate the coin reject button (AND YES YOU DO) you'll have to figure out something on your own. I recommend red leds (white ones will wash out the red a bit) Other than that the door also does not come with a coin lockout coil.. honestly.. I wouldn't have expected it on a door this price and it's not a standard feature on doors anyway. So the coin mech seems to be of decent enough quality; It comes pretuned for quarters.. it might be able to be adjusted for something else but it rejected .900 tokens and steel coins and slugs (Like it should) so it does it's job and had no failures the dozen or so times I tested. I haven't installed mine yet, im stil working on getting things ready but im pretty happy with it. a 2 slot door would have been better, but a single slot door gets the job done and saves a few bucks, some games will need to be set to a common credit system however so that's a little bit of a pain. 1 more thing.. The coin reject buttons that came on mine are red, unlike the yellow ones pictured. Now.. persoanlly.. I actually prefer red reject buttons (although yellow ones are nice too).. so that's not a negative imo.. but it's worth mentioning. Like I said the door seems to use fairly standard parts I think you could get a different color reject button if you really wanted to. TL;DR PROS: * Price (I wouldn't call it cheap but it's also one of the least expensive options out there) * Authenticity, It will act just like the coin doors you've encountered in the wild. * Comes almost fully assembled and ready to mount. CONS: * No lockout coil (not vital or expected at this price though) * Lock cam does not line up tight without modifications * Only 1 Key * Reject button Illumination not included (gotta supply your own light solution) * No instructions Despite the con's being more than the pro's I still recommend the door, especially for home use.
