    Convenient for tripod use

    Yes you can use camera wifi to connect to smartphone app. But that can be slow, fussy, lose connection and consume battery life. You can use shutter delay but not helpful with moving subject (insect, flower in wind, etc.) This is a simple plug (round and easy to plug in) and it can stay plugged in camera while in camera bag provided there is no pressure on plug. It has just the right length cord. Put camera on tripod and you are ready to go. Recommended for tripod use.
