The 01 8.5 mm F/1.9 is a high-performance standard prime lens in the Pentax Q-system which outperforms any expectations. Its natural perspective is similar to the one of the human eye, therefore it can be used as a multipurpose lens, for anything from landscapes to portrait photography. With maximum aperture of F/1.9 it gives excellent performance in low-light conditions and provides impressive depth of field. With its two aspherical optical elements aberrations, flare, and ghosting are kept to a minimum, while image detail is crisp and bright even at the edge of the image field. The Pentax lens coating produces beautifully defined images with vivid colors, and open aperture photography is possible in bright settings thanks to the Neutral Density filter.

nice lens, but definitely can't be considered as a "portrait"
Pentax Q series uses a tiny sensor which limits the image quality sacrificing a lot for compactness of the whole system. The 01 Prime lens is excellent optically, focuses fast and precise, produces great images at f/1.9 and up. However if you expect anything like you get from 50mm f/1.9 (or 1.8) on a full frame or APS-C or even micro 4/3 , you're in for a disappointment . The sensor is so small that you can't get any decent bokeh and subject separation even at f/1.9 . Pentax should have considered a faster prime for sure , f/1.2 or 1.4 would produce a much better portraits, but alas... you get a small compact relatively fast lens , which produces pretty similar image to a 02 standard zoom at about 8-9mm in most shooting situations. Overall recommended for good image quality and compactness.

Not as sharp as a DSLR but better than any Point n Shoots.
If you want to get a real idea of the quality look at the web reviews Flickr pictures taken with this lens and Youtubes about this lens and the Q7 camera. Its an exceptional travel camera. A great compromise between a compact zoom and a larger digital camera. This lens is sharp in the center with just a bit of distortion on sides but most people will not notice it. Makes the camera fit nicely in a jacket pocket.

A true hobbyist lens
At 2020, Pentax Q is obviously "obsoleted". So whoever still buys accessories for this camera probably buy them as a collector, or really loves this camera and do not judge camera gears from a pure technical perspective. If this is the case, this lens is definitely worth it. It is cute. It is fun. It performs fairly well. It matches with the camera extremely well visually as well as functionally. If you a looking to buy a lens with the best "dollar against performance" value from a pure technical angle. This is NOT the lens for you.
