Purchased to use with generator with 240v well pump
Updated 16-MAR-2018 - we lost power for a total of 5 days over the last 2 weeks due to nor'easters. This little device has worked perfectly! With the well pump plugged in, and the 110 outlet being utilized as well (for a light & device charging) we have had no issues at all. I have a 9000w generator and found it easier to setup two standard extension cords (120v) from outside to outlets on the side of the house, rather than use the L14-30R outlet. I would have had to purchase extension cords (or 12guage line + conduit) that would have been nearly triple the cost of this voltage converter. After receiving it I selected the voltage of 110v on the input, then plugged in the well pump to the 240v output, turned it on, ran some water and... success! Cheap and dangerous
This unit, as you can see, accepts grounded plugs, but has no ground continuity through the cord. This means that the safety earth on any appliance you connect to it will be defeated, and it also means that the metal casing of the transformer itself will become live if there is any fault within the machine. A fuse will not save you from electrocution, it passes more than ten times the current necessary to kill a person.This unit, as you can see, accepts grounded plugs, but has no ground continuity through the cord.
