Charming
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir has been one of my all time favorite stories. The widowed Mrs. Muir and her young daughter move into a house right on the sea where she has always wanted to live only to find out the house is already occupied by a sea captain who has been dead for many years. Their adventures begin as soon as Mrs. Muir takes occupancy and she refuses to be scared away from the home she desires. Their relationship borders on the stormy side in the beginning...but adventures they do have.The Ghost and Mrs. Muir has been one of my all time favorite stories. The widowed Mrs. Muir and her young daughter move into a house right on the sea where she has always wanted to live only to find out the house is already occupied by a sea captain who has been dead for many years. Their adventures begin as soon as Mrs. Muir takes occupancy and she refuses to be scared away from the home she desires. Maybe one of the best love stories ever told
A beautiful widow woman disregards the plans of demanding in laws who would control her new lease on life after a loveless husbands death...having this new lease on life she's determined to be free of others influences and leaves the big city for the sea shore. The only piece of life missing for her was love...and only after death would she find it for eternity. I don't normally like love stories but this one has the ruff tuff sea captain for us males and the strong willed but gentle and wise female for the women. Putting both together makes a great combination that is the success of this movie. A well shot fantasy
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Muir (lovely Gene Tierney) moves with her daughter (Natalie Wood) and maid (Edna Best) to a small house by the sea, away from everything. Despite of her daughter and good old maid, Mrs. Muir finds herself lonely. Perhaps this is the reason, why this deceased seacaptain Gregg (Rex Harrison) comes into her life. Or perhaps he is just a ghost, who wants newcomers out of his home. The movie is well shot. All shades of black and white in this flick are just like in some of the finest film noir classics. Also, the makeup of Gene Tierney, when her character gets older, it looks surprisingly realistic. Of course Tierney herself does a great job too. George Sanders, who has a supporting role as Mrs. Muir's new love, shows some talent too. He hadn't ... This was an absolutely splendid old movie. Set in England around 1900. this is the story of a young widow, Mrs.Lucy Muir, played by Gene Tierney. She and her daughter are unhappily living with her dead husband's family. She is practically their servant and is most unappreciated. In a bold move she takes an old cottage at the shore, Gull Cottage. The rent is very cheap, and soon she finds out why. It seems that it is inhabited by the spirit of it's former owner, a lifelong seaman, Captain Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison). He has always been able to scare off all other occupants, but Mrs. Muir isn't afraid. Within a short time Mrs. Muir and Capt. Gregg have not only come to tolerate each other, but a genuine affection is developing. Mrs. Muir writes a book about the Captain's ... This was an absolutely splendid old movie. For years he watches over her longing for the day when they both can be together. Many years go by, and Lucy's daughter grows up and marries. Lucy has dreams of the Captain but doesn't know who he is or why. Finally, that day comes, and Captain Gregg takes her hand forever. This is a wonderfully touching love story and one that I highly recommend.

The realtor did not want her to go there and ran out when a window slammed on its own. It seems that the rumors were true. The house was haunted. The ghost was Captain Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison), a retired sea captain who had reportedly committed suicide in the house, but he says that he didn't. He says that a gas line malfunctioned and killed him while he slept in a closed up house. But anyway Gregg and Muir get along famously, and he helps her write a biography of himself so that she can afford the rent. He falls in love with her at first, but being a ghost he can do nothing about ... This was obviously because of the many shots of the Whitecliff area of England and of the temperamental sea. Be sure to notice a young Natalie Wood as Anna Muir, Lucy's daughter. She plays a pivotal part in the movie and of its resolution. Also a little known actress named Edna Best plays Lucy Muir's maid and companion. This is a tried and true movie that will not let you down. Save it for a rainy day, when you need a lift.
