  • Good pop rock but lacks a bit of punch

Like a previous reviewer, I anticipated harder music with the punch that would have really highlighted and showcased Chris' great and unique vocal talents. Most of the songs are a bit on the bland pop side. To Daughtry's credit, there isn't a 'dog' of a song in the bunch, however. So, this CD is good, especially for an initial release; but hopefully the next one will feature a bit more variety in the blend. I'd like to hear some melodies and lyrics with more contrast and punch in the mix. Harder rock would simply suit his vocal style much better.

  • Daughtry - Daughtry (CD), Chris from America Idol

I was wowed by his performance on Idol... I was mesmerized by his rough rock-n-roll style, I nearly cried when it was announced that this awesome raw talent was going home.... so, of course I eagerly awaited his debut album. This man has the most powerful, most breath-taking, most captivating vocals that I have heard in a long time. However, I was dissapointed in this album. While his vocals are amazing and I dont' think it is bad... I was sad to hear it sounding so similar to some of the other bands on the radio today. I expected him to debut with this hardcore, hard-hitting, ROCK album but instead it sounds like all the others out there. I will remain a loyal Daughtry fan because I know he is capable of something unique, something different and I know he will deliver. On another note: ...

  • lots of potential but in need of guidance

First off, Chris Daughtry is amazingly talented. Of the American Idol finalists, you could predict that he'd be the most marketable. His edgy style of singing is simply popular at the present. This cd is primarily about romantic relationships, with is typical of radio-fare. It is almost void of spiritual themes and the deeper matters of basic human nature. While typical of first releases, even as good as this one is, his next will hopefully contemplate a wider range of more serious topics. The lyrics are positive and clean. His post-grunge vocals and acoustic sensitivities certainly have their appeal. The rocker, It's Not Over, was, of course, an instant radio hit, as was the ballad Over You. The other songs are either midtempo rockers or pandering ballads, but they lack the ...

  • Daughtry CD review

Being an avid fan of American Idol, it was criminal when Chris Daughtry was eliminated. When watching AI Season 8 a few weeks back and seeing that Chris Daughtry had created his own band, aptly named Daughtry, and hearing him perform his song on AI, I instantly searched for his CD the next day. The CD arrived from the seller in the USA 7 days later and I played it 4 times over as well as email tracks to friends and upload it to the shared computer drive at work so others could listen and enjoy. I was initially worried that BMG & 19 records (Simon Cowell's bunch) were the producers and instantly thought that this would be a tad pop like with a few cheesy tracks thrown in. I was wrong. Thank God! For a debut album, this is a work of art. It sounds like Chris Daughtry has been doing this ...

  • A good album from American Idol? wow...

I'm not too much into American Idol and the singers but Daughtry definately is an exception. Although there's room to expand on lyrics and experimentation with tone color, I definately though it was a good first try. "It's Not Over", the first song and first single on the album, has become very popular on radio and is surely worth a listen. The album progress very little from there, but none of the songs are trash. Daughtry needs to develop more, but I really do like this album.
