I bought this receiver to replace and older Onkyo system. I was looking for a system with networking capability and HDMI connectivity. I love being able to listen Slacker and Pandora at the touch of a button and this is the first system that has provided enough inputs to connect all of my game consoles, my blueray player, my CD changer, my laptop, my MP3 player....and I still have inputs I have yet to use. The sound quality is amazing and setup was very easy. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it is gigantic and heavy. It is twice as tall as my last, but this is something I was expecting from the product description and pictures...so not really a bad thing at all. The build quality was better than expected and I am thoroughly happy with my purchase. I compared many different brands and models...I did countless hours of research. I looked at Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony, Harmon Kardon, and many others. This Onkyo System provided everything I needed and more.Read full review
I set it for 9.2 with pre out onkyo 282 external amp. I run boss 601iv, 301iv, 201iv, klipsh rs 42ii rear surround infinity high end center, klipsh bookshelf high speakers and jbl 750 watt powered subs. This thing is clear and thunderous! !!!!!! Great reciever!!!!!!!

I cannot say enough about this receiver. Every available feature, incredibly precise sound, power, and versatility. A large number of HDMI ports, ability to use virtually every product. Probably the best feature is how easy it is to set up the audio for the room so that the sound is just plain amazing.

The Onkyo 818 receiver is absolutely great so far. I am still finding my way around the multiples of features it offers. The Audyssey is absolutely fantastic. I couldn't believe my ears.

Love it, my only issue is with the hdmi outputs. One will up convert while the other will only send the source quality to the display. I have a flat screen for day to day viewing and a projector for my movies and some sporting events. They are both connected so I can view as desired. Not a big issue since most flat screens up convert but this receiver only displays all the menu items to a TV so I have to have the flat screen on that hdmi output or use the receivers display menu to make changes, again no big deal but would have been nice to just up convert both outputs.
