i had very high hopes for the rocktron metal planet. i have read some good reviews, and heard decent sound bytes of it so i decided to buy it. my main distortion pedal is a Zoom Tri Metal, so the rocktron had tough competition. well, it didnt meet my expectations at all. for starters, its marketed as a high gain pedal(its musiciansfriend.com description says warning this distortion is not for the timid). well i must say, high gain it was not. rocktron makes Metal Planet sounds saddingly similar to it in gain. what the zombie lacked in tonal control the Planet had, but high gain it was not. If you want to hear high gain check out the Tri Metal. that sucker has an extreme amount of gain. the Tonal controls on the Planet were fairly straight forward, tho the mid freq knob doesnt do a super lot to the sound. as i am comparing this pedal to the Tri, i'll say the EQ on it is amazing. you can have ridiculous gain and not sacrifice any tone; no 'fizzy, weak' or 'screeching' from that bad boy. ok ok, anyways, I have used an EHX Metal Muff, a Zoom Tri Metal, and Rocktron Zombie and Metal Planet pedals, and i must say the tri is the best, the metal muff just barely above the Planet(but enough above to be better for my taste in tone) and the rocktrons on the bottom, near a boss ds-1. not heavy enough gain and tone for metal. unless you like your distortion to sound slightly better than stock amp gain. I really wanted to like the Planet, but it aint happeningRead full review
Very broad distortion pedal. Can go from soft overdrive right up to rectified type distortion. Also has a mid freq sweep which really sets it apart from others. Built like a tank. It is a little on the larger side especially when comparing to all the micro options we have today by that's a non issue for me.

I'm 58 yrs old After 40 yrs of Gigging, Recording, etc. This is the first foot pedal I have ever found to truthfully reproduce even at low volume levels, into a mixer or an amp the sound of a full blown stack even through studio monitors! and also change it from one amplifier brand such as Marshall to another such as Fender, Soldano, etc. just by using the parametric tone controls, and distortion level, as long as you will take the time to tweak it just right. The sound is Incredible. Works wonders in the studio running straight into the mix. On the down side, Personally I think they are a little cheaply made, compared to the older foot pedals, Jacks should be of better quality, Little hard to grip knobs on the concentric's because there too small and crammed into a small space. But for the money in today's world.. I sure haven't found any thing better. I would hate to even try and count the number of over drives, distortion units etc, I have owned in my life time, just like my Guitars and amplifiers it would be in the hundreds. Sure worth the effort to try it out.Read full review

First off, one thing for all you guitar tek heads: Sweepable Mids! This pedal sounds better than average through a Solid State Rig, I use a solid state rig for personal practice, but my live rig is a Vintage JMP50 with EL88's for the power tube section, and a single gain stage for the preamp. I would take this Rocktron pedal, over a Vintage Ibanez Tube Screamer any day of the week. You can precision tweek mids, the Overall EQ is perfect, it's also extremely quiet at high volumes (no hums, or strange noises coming through your amp when your not playing, weather using a batter or DC Power Supply) The overall tone of the distortion is clean, & it's durable. My Only complaint is that the pedal isn't a True Bypass. SparX
This is incredible for leads and rhythm... great bottom end, great thick distortion, no fizzy fuzzy sag .... just solid distortion.. rolling back your volume gets it to cleanup nicely ... but this is no soft blues pedal... Solid built, great EQ, built in !! Easy to dial in a musical tone.. Austin Gold sonic Glory Metal planet Zombie Put those pedals in that order.... There seriously is no gain sound that you cannot handle ... Great Distortion pedal !!!!
