This is an amazing appliance. It is vital for me as I have digestive problems and often have to puree my food. It is powerful and has such a high speed that it can puree anything. When I juice my fruits and veggies, I use the Vitamax to compost the leftover pulp and any other leftovers and egg shells I have saved and add it to my gardens. It will shut itself off as a safety feature if it gets too warm and it is very noisy on the high speeds, but to me that is not a criticism as you run it a very short time. It is one speed, but has a variable speed so it is really more than one speed. You can make soups in it, make slushies and grind up ice cubes or coffee. It is very versatile. I like the idea that you can get parts for it and other sized jars and other blades for coffee grinding, etc. I believe that it is made in America and that is the biggest plus of all!! I was lucky to get this one at a very good price as they are quite pricey, but they last forever and you get what you pay for. I've found that purchasing better quality appliances and paying the higher price makes better sense. I expect that I can hand this one down to my granddaughter and I have already purchased some extra parts in case this model becomes obsolete. You can't go wrong. It will last for years as long as you don't abuse it. Mine was made in the 1990's and has a lot of miles left in it.Read full review
I wanted a Vitamix high speed blender that would make smoothies that include such healthful ingredients as chard, kale, and spinach. I received the blender in perfect condition, along with helpful recipe books, and use it almost every day, since it's so easy to get the recommended 5 to 7 high quality fruits and vegetables daily in a smoothie, rather than preparing that many entrees. Besides the greens, it liquifies apples, oranges, berries, much better than my older smaller and slower blender. Great for creamed soups, too. Reviews have warned against cheaper high speed brands that break down after a short time, while the Vitamix just seems to live forever. I also successfuly ground dried corn to make fresh cornmeal, much better than storebought commercial.
Bought a pre-owned Vitamix 5000 to upgrade my smoothie game. I was nervous that something would be wrong with it, or that the blades would be dull. Thankfully that was not the case! My sister had the same blender so I already knew it was great at blending fruit to make smoothies, and the pre-owned one I bought lived up to the hype. Highly recommend!

This blender is great!!! I have a VitaMix 5200, which replaced my 5000, which I gave to my former pastors' wife. She uses it several times a day, and loves it. I bought this 5000 as a birthday gift for my 96 year old little-old-lady friend who wanted to do the Dr. Oz 3-day Detox diet (which WORKS, by the way!!!) with me. My friend loves, Loves, LOVES her Vitamix! I have used it to make 'Virgin Marys', which she and I enjoy after a rough morning of getting the hair done (hers) and the house cleaning done (her house, which I clean while she is getting her hair done). She had a wimpy blender on the counter until about 7 seconds after I gave her the VitaMix. The 'wimp' has since been given to one of her many grandchildren. There is nothing to dislike about this blender. It does what my friend wants, and more. How does this blender compare to others? Try using a whisk to puree tomatoes into juice. That is how a Vitamix compares to other blenders. I make smoothies (Dr. Oz) nearly every day in mine. When I have lots of tomatoes and not enough time to can them, I puree them, peels and all, in my Vitamix, and can the juice. My little-old-lady-friend plans on making her own tomato juice with her Vitamix. If I want a mixed vegetable juice, I go and pick whatever is in the garden, and after wiping off the dirt, I toss it into the Vitamix with a little water, and, 'zoom zoom, vroom vroom, I have mixed vegetable juice. No ingredients I cannot pronounce. When I can, I will purchase a Vitamix for my daughters and their families. You cannot go wrong with a Vitamix!!!!!!!!!Read full review
Cups were delivered very fast. The 14 ounce size is excellent for smoothies. The lid is very secure and will not leak if turned up side down. Cleans up in the dishwasher perfectly!
