I was happy to buy this camera as I previously had bought the same make and model of camera and knew that it was a good all round camera for taking pictures of holidays, etc. My original camera was damaged, so I was happy to buy a used identical camera from ebay.
I was looking for a good, cheap camera to take on holiday with me, and after much research I settled on the Kodak C875. It's combination of low price and high quality images is pretty impressive, but there are one or two areas where it could be improved upon. The good: - Great quality pics outdoors, sharp and with vibrant colours - Excellent zoom, 5X optical really does get you close to your subject - Lots of features, and many manual settngs for those wanting a bit more than point and shoot - Automatic scene selection via Smartscene does a surprisingly good job - As does the Perfect Touch technology, which is built into the camera and will automatically touch up your photos for you providing before and after examples - Filesize of images is quite small with seemingly no loss of detail. I took 568 pictures (All at maximum resoltion) and several short videos on my holiday, yet the camera said my 2GB card (Which cost under £10 from Ebay) could still hold another 365 pictures or 25m44s of video - 640*480 video yeilds some excellent film with sharp images The bad: - No image stabiliser. You do get a red/yellow/green hand indicating how steady and clear the image is which is a help, but especially in low light you'll spend a long time reshooting to try to get a good picture - Long-distance, low light pictures (Ie without the flash) just don't come out well. They're far too grainy and blurry, to the point that I had to fall back on my 3.2mp Cybershot mobile phone(!) to get certain shots in these conditions. You can get some good photos in low light, but it requires lots of patience and seemingly lots of luck too and it's a frustrating task - If you use the zoom whilst filming video, the sound cuts out altogether and all you can hear is the zoom mechanism Other comments: The flash is adequate but not exceptional. The LCD display is large and clear without being fantastic (The pixels are fairly large on it, but not overly so). The build quality appears excellent and the camera feels solid and robust - though I've not dropped it to test this supposition! Decent batteries (Try 2500mAh rechargeables) last a good amount of time and allow you to get plenty shots in. I was constanty frustrated by the camera's decision to reset all it's settings if you flick it to "off" then "on" again. This resulted in me nearly getting thrown out of the Vatican museum in Rome when it decided to keep sticking the flash back on "Automatic" every time I switched it off for a few moments to save the battery power. On the subject of battery life, there's no manual viewfinder, and therefore there's no way to take photos without the screen on. The minimum time the camera allows before putting the screen into power save mode is 1 minute, which seems overly long to me as I'd have preferred a 20-30 second option. Summary: Overall, despite it's shortcomings (None of the bad points are insurmountable and I *have* taken some decent shots in low light - But plenty of bad ones too!) this is a very good camera for the price I paid. For under £100 for an 8mp camera with 5X optical zoom, you have to expect that something will be compromised somewhere along the line. However the image quality is excellent in all but the worst lighting conditions and provided the majority of your photos will be either in good light or close enough to the subject to use the flash, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this camera to anyone.Read full review
the display screen is massive and the picture quality is brilliant. the fuctions are great. the only downside to the camera is it does suck up the power it uses aa size batteries which is great because they are cheap but you are only looking at 40 to 60 photo out of bog standard bateries untill it starts to turn it self off definintly requires energizer ultimate lithium batterey's which you can pick up for £4.50 for 4 which will give you 120 to 200 per 2. other than that great camera and there are real bargains on this camera on ebay
Very good camera overall only thing I don't like because early cameras had them is a lack of a viewfinder. Sometimes looking at a LCD screen is a bit difficult in strong daylight and you have to take a chance, so far its worked out OK. Generally speaking the results have been excellent with very sharp focus. I would recommend this to others.
Purchased this camera as a replacement for an older model (6.1mp easyshare) which was recently stolen. Must say that the additional features and better picture resolution are a definitely a bonus, but did take a while to get to grips with the operation (this is probably just me being an old fogey though!). All round, a vast improvement on the previous version and with much better range of picture options - A must for the everyday user who wants good quality pictures with the least amount of hassle. Changing from different picture modes can be a little time consuming, mainly as there are so many options available, but once mastered will be found to be probably the best range of options around for the quality and cost of this camera. I am extremely pleased with results so far.
