Product Information

First released as an Arcade game, Atari's Hard Drivin' made its way to the Lynx portable console in 1991. Players drive their sports car in the game's single track and try to complete one of two courses within the allotted time. At the beginning of the track, players can choose the speed course or the stunt course by steering in the appropriate direction at the first Y split in the road. The object of the speed course is to go as fast as possible to beat the timer, while the object of the stunt course is to drive through a series of jumps and loops. <br><br>The game is viewed from an inside-the-car, first-person view, in which players can see the game's 3D rendered track over the top of the instrument panel. The panel has the standard displays found in most cars, including a speedometer and a RPM meter. The car has four gears and reverse, and can be set to either manual or automatic transmission.<br><br>Players are allowed to drive anywhere they want, but the race timer ensures gamers will usually stay on course. If players do go off-road, the game beeps and warns players of the situation. If players crash, they restart from slightly before the crash with a fresh car. The game ends when the race timer counts down to zero.
