There was a piece that broke off that holds one of the discs (the third one with the special features), but luckily the disc itself wasn't loose in the cover and looks to be in good condition. The two discs with the actual film on it worked great. King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition is the best version of Peter Jackson's film that you could get as it includes 20 extra minutes of scenes like the Ceratops attack and the swamp monster scenes that aren't in the theatrical cut. While the theatrical cut is good, the Deluxe Extended Edition is the definitive experience.

Despite his origins as a low-budget filmmaker with a taste for the unsavory side of life, Peter Jackson has turned into an "event" filmmaker, someone who can conjure up a movie on a scale unlike anything we've seen before. "KING KONG" is his sprawling, epic remake of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack's 1933 movie of the same name, and it is as big as the gorilla that runs riot through Jackson's rendering of Depression-era New York. Keeping the simple yet effective plot intact; a film crew travels to the mysterious Skull Island, picks up Kong, and brings him back to New York City. Jackson expands on this basic premise by drawing on the jaw-dropping talents of his special effects team to satisfy his thirst for the grand spectacle. The movie stars Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow, the starry-eyed blonde beauty whom Kong falls for; Jack Black as Carl Denham, a low-rent Orson Welles look-alike who drags the crew to the island to make his movie; and Adrian Brody as Jack Driscoll, a hack playwright who battles Kong both physically and for Darrow's heart. As the men struggle against Kong and the lumbering dinosaurs of Skull Island, Andy Serkis steps in to form the facial features of the mighty gorilla, lending a real emotional sucker-punch to the scenes between Darrow and Kong. But it's the final third of the movie where Jackson really delivers; his 1930s New York is stunning, and when Kong breaks free from his shackles and stampedes on a lovelorn trek through the city, then iconically climbs the Empire State Building with his sweetheart, it's impossible to not be swept away by the sheer beauty and sadness of the moment. While its 3-hour 21-minute length may prove daunting to some, the payoff in Jackson's "KING KONG" is ultimately worth it, proving once again that he is a director of breathtaking vision.Read full review
Excellent film with scenes not in theatrical release and a lot of great info about the production. The only thing I don't like is that the whole film itself isn't on one disc but it must be the length of the film is not possible to put on one disc.

My favorite movie! I love this romantic drama! It is full of action, full of gripping suspense and very heartbreaking to the end. So much tenderness between Beauty and the beast. My two favorite parts in this movie is when Kong takes Ann to the top of his mountain and views the sun setting. "BEAUTIFUL" says Ann as Kong acknowledges with a tender expression. The second favorite part is when Kong is up the Empire State Building and the sun sets again with Kong acknowledging "Beautiful" by beating on his chest softly with his left hand. Warm, funny and very, very touching to the end. The musical score is fantastic and very beautiful. Everytime I see this movie my tears fall from my eyes and my heart breaks for it reminds me of many wonderful things in life. See it! It will touch your heart and your very soul!Read full review
Well, where should I start? Let me start first off by saying that I haven't had much luck in the action/adventure category. The best movies I've seen until now were the Jurassic Park films. I got the Mummy films, but they were TERRIBLE; I couldn't believe a movie could be so bad. But, when I was looking at King Kong, the same "I want that" feeling came over me. I was happy to see that King Kong was a critical hit; I was DESPARATE for a good movie. I ordered the 3-disc Deluxe Extended Edition on eBay, and when it came, I popped it in my DVD player first thing. Unfortunately, the whole family was there, so the movie HAD to be good, or my parents wouldn't let me buy another movie again. Lucky for me, the movie was GREAT. Amazing sets, special effects, screenplay, costumes, you name it! The only con I can think of was that the creature scenes got a little out of hand, and the death scenes got pretty gross. Anyway, this movie is definitely a plus in my book. Lastly, GET THE 3-DISC SET!!! There are tons of special features, and the extended edition has a great amount of deleted scenes. Have fun watching! (If you haven't already, shame on you!)Read full review
