After buying $60 worth of new ink, my old printer just wouldn’t work. Junked it and bought this one. My old computer wasn’t compatible with brand new. But this jewel was perfect. Installed my ink and here I go...

This product was sold on false pretense. The printer lacked the paper holder and catch of paper. Also the USB cord was not included.

I am about an hour away from being the winning bidder on a hp 5440. The one I am replacing ran about 1 1/2 years, 3500 pages printed. The main reason for the new one is I have spare ink and I want to keep the same ink. It will be about 40.00 with shipping and that seems ok for the expected 18 months of use. Like a couple of people above, the carriage jams up and you have to hold the blinking reset button. Each time...gets to be a hassel I didn't know about the hp psc 1510 using the same ink. But I don't need the scanner feature or copier feature. I have that in a Brothers all in one, mfc 665 cw. So, as long as this thing runs and gives me 3000 or 4000 pages for 40 bucks, I'll be back to look for another..
I like HP printers. every one I have owned has performed as advertised. The HP5440 has a little larger desktop presence than I had anticipated. I was looking for a smaller version with similar specs. The printer does perform as advertised and I am not disapointed with its function. The paper tray is the weak link. The plastic clips that allow the tray to rise up out of the way on the desktop are fragile and break easily. I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for an inexpensive color printer of avarage size and specs.
The footprint of this printer is excellent but the output paper extender is cheap and always in the way. I am very disappointed in the cartridge life vs the cost. This printer will go through a black cartridge every 3 weeks with low normal use. You will be lucky to print 10 8X10 color pictures on photo paper with the normal color cartridge. The quality is excellent but the speed is slow if you choose the highest quality printing. Overall I am probably going to try to find another HP printer that has better print cartridge life. Occasional paper jams but so far not a problem. I have owned this printer for about 2 years.
