excellent piece of equipment for dividing a medium to large lay out into dcc power districts. This allows you to problem solve electrical issues in individual areas of the layout without having to trouble shoot the entire layout. You can adjust power levels, short circuit time out, and use for reverse loops. Programing is done with a dt 400 or higher by using the switch throwing feature on the cab. excellent product great price

  • Can't run a RR without it.

I have 2. One covers the 4 yards sections, and the other covers 3 reversing loops. You need these. However, Set up is a bit confusing. A reversing loop has no rail A or B. Go figure. (Their tech insisted there was.) The connector is a bit cheap. The plastic has a low temp melt point and if you are using 14Ga wire, I learned to tin all parts bend into position and heat the wire then touch the pins. It would be better to have a similar connector as is on the "Boosters" Molex #39520-0007 and to have all the power input pins ganged maybe with jumper options on the board. Minimizing connections in a confined area reduces heat stressing the plastic around pins. BTW a booster is not a booster of any kind. It is a computer enhanced power supply.

  • A great buy and I highly recommend The PM42 over other brands.

I had one already and I needed another, so I bought another less expensive unit. It worked for a while but it just did not do what I waned it to do. In my opinion it does not compare to the PM42. The unit works great.

  • Needs programming before installation

This device needs a Digitrax system to program. This is such a bother since I don't own a Digitrax DCC system. I have no idea if it will work eventually. Out of the box, it will work only as a circuit breaker for shorts or overload.

  • A really good product

A really good product that allows me to spend more time running my railroad rather than working on it.
