About this product

Product Information

From Nepal to Kenya, from Australia to Brazil, people try to cope with the changes that have altered their landscape, crowding them together and speeding up daily life. The film shows us these alienated people, but also images of traditions--whirling dervishes and Tibetan monks--that offer different, peaceful ways of existence. Shot in 70mm in 24 countries, this awesome musical and visual montage in the tradition of KOYAANISQATSI expresses the global existence of nature and man in the broadest sensory terms.

Not a lot of frills as far as DVD mastering, but still a treasure.

The film itself looks great, especially now on these big, modern televisions. This is the third format in which I've owned this. Laser disc long ago, then VHS that I loaned and never got back. A treasure of beauty of the complexity of this world. Something I want to share with everyone who wonders about existence and existential questions.

  • Beautiful!

I had heard a lot about Baraka before I purchased it an even watched clips from it on youtube. It is quite a ride. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because some of the tribal scenes with the children had content which was filmed in a way that I found creepy and distasteful. Baraka is more than just what you see and hear. You have to view it for yourself to truly understand. Baraka, without words or opinions, shows the connections between all different kinds of people from all over the world. It shows how things like religion, gender, influence, and lifestyle ultimately mean nothing and how your station does not need to define you. It shows how different geological and elemental forces move in the same ways all over the planet, how the clouds in the sky move so much like the ...

  • A sublime ride.

Sublime photography. Many of the ancient temples were shown in the most engaging way I can imagine, and the moody soundtrack fit the images perfectly.

  • A film to move you

What an excellent film. It shows just how beautiful and majestic our planet can be, and how perilous the civilized culture has been on it. What a great way to remind us of the impact we are having on our home. This film will move you in ways you never thought a film could...it might even bring a tear or two to your eye. I have shown this film to my 7-year-old daughter in order to plant a seed of understanding about other cultures, and environmental wonder. Mother Nature is a powerful and magical force. My bet would be to not reckon with her!

  • A unique movie worth seeing.

A really interesting movie with some unforgettable scenes.
