Excellent TV reunion movie from 30 years ago that reunited James Garner and Jack Kelly as Bret and Bart Maverick from the 1957-60 run of the original TV series. This reunion movie also served as a pilot to introduce Charles Frank as Ben Maverick, son of Beau Maverick (who was played by pre-Saint, pre-Bond Roger Moore during the 4th season of the original series.) The only disappointment with this DVD was that WB could have included the 8 episodes of the short-lived Young Maverick series with Charles Frank and made it a series set. Hopefully, WB will release series sets of the original Maverick and Bret Maverick series in the near future.

I bought the DVD The New Maverick to add to my collection. The copy is clear with no skipping or sticking. The sound is distinct and matches the video. My only complaint is that the disc has no scene selection; if the video is stopped, one must fast forward through the entire film to get back to the place where one was.
The New Maverick was somewhat of a disappointment. I bought it because I enjoyed the Maverick series and thought that this was a part of that. But in reality it appears to be a pilot for a spin off, which introduces a cousin, I think, who would be Brett Maverick, with a new name. There is only one Brett - James Gardner. It was ok viewing the initial time, but will probably not watch it a second time.
I think James Garner was a great actor period. I will never forget his great westerns, Drama, and commidies.
