I won the auction for $50 and paid for the item but the seller increased the price to $140 prior to collection. I asked the seller to cancel the transaction and issue a refund, which they did immediately. I’ve been on eBay for over 20 years (eBay USA) prior to eBay AU and this has never happened, not even once.

I'm sorry but this isn't 100% correct. You didn't win the auction - I ended it early by mistake. That's my stuff up and shouldn't have happened (clearly I wasn't paying attention). Note, because of this (my) mistake i.e. ended early I sent an invoice with the amount to pay $140 in total (still around $100 under what all other units on ebay have sold for this year). I apologised for the confusion to which you replied 'no worries at all'. You were asked what you'd like to do and were refunded.
