Director John Sturges (The Great Escape) ramps up the tension while revealing Macreedys mission and the towns grim secret. Robert Ryan, Walter Brennan, Ernest Borgnine and Lee Marvin are among the towns thugs and lap dogs. Im half horse, half alligator, one says. Theyll find Macreedy is even tougher stuff.

    A great DVD copy of a classic movie.

    This is an excellent movie, one of the classics, with great actors (several Academy Award winners), a strong script and a compelling story. It is character driven with real tension for all of the characters. This DVD is a great print of the original film, with clear colour, sound and crisp details.

    Tense and engaging

    Spencer Tracy excels as a one armed veteran who drops in on the tiny town of Black Rock, wanting to go to Adobe Flat. Suspicious men of the town played by Robert Ryan et al, create a tension that is maintained. A great film.
