This book is amazing, and enlightening. It really gives insight into the struggles of depression and bullying. Wonderfully and uniquely written.

Fantastic book but cannot give as a gift. Jacket was messed up. Most likely from shipping. Bubble wrap would protect more. Keeping for myself. One of the best books out today!

I thought this was very good for YA fiction. I generally don't read YA but this one caught my interest so I perused it as it came across my desk got interested and read it. I found it to be very heartfelt and at the same time a very unique premise for a book. I could see it would be easy for someone who was struggling with some of the same problems and feelings of isolation to relate to this book. I thought it was sad but hard to put down, compelling. It was well written, but parts I thought could have done better or I'd have given it full marks. It does, however, get credit for not putting the blame of suicide solely onto other people(as you might assume from the title) but acknowledges that people are still responsible for their own actions even if things get out of control. Read this one, and I could see a lot of adults liking it to. For nothing else it gives you mindset, and you can remember what it was like to feel trapped as a teenager.Read full review
I'm a senior citizen. When I was in high school, kids who committed suicide were either romantic or scary. We never really knew what they were thinking, so we made up stories about it. This, too, is a made-up story, but it feels real. It tells the story of why one girl commits suicide without being romantic or scary. It tells of her interactions and relationships with her classmates in such a way as to encourage readers to be more compassionate. Yes, there's the prurient interest factor -- why did she do it? would I ever do it? But the girl's voice is not the only one telling the tale. The story is tempered by the reactions of a boy who tried to be her friend. This boy is the true narrator. His feelings as he discovers the journey that led this girl to suicide along with the reader, kept me glued to the pages. Highly recommended for anyone who has ever considered suicide, or knows someone else who has.Read full review
This book was so good I read it in 3 days time. I don't like books much, but once I started this book, I couldn't stop until I had to force myself to! It is very interesting on why Hannah Baker actually committed suicide, and there are 13 people who influenced this decision. Each chapter is so great and enjoyable and catches your eye and attention. I recommend this book for people who like to read about death, or suicide and reasons why, or something like it. Very interesting book. Get this book for you! Extremely well written.. Highly Recommended for ALL! It is really a great book and why Hannah really killed herself. Although I don't agree on why she killed herself, because some of the reasons will slightly not that hard to deal with, but you get the understanding of what a suicidal person might go through and feel like.. Get this book immediately, and as I said, it's highly recommended from me and several others. Very GREAT.Read full review
I did not know what to expect when first picking up "Thirteen Reasons Why", but what I found when I began to read the book was something amazing! I literally could not sit the book down, I believe I finished it in two days. The situations were so real, and It really made me start wondering who in my life do I know that could be feeling like the lead character Hannah Baker. The book was interested, quite sad, and unbelievable but at the same time Honestly reality. I would recommend the book to any High School student, or High School student's parent, this could be a good book for a parent and child to read at the same time. Get two copies, read it and talk about it like a book club.
I found this book at my school library and checked it out because it seemed interesting and I saw the reviews from other readers inside the book that talked about how the book "changed their lives". I started reading right away and what seemed like two minutes later, I already read 70 pages. The book sucks you into a thriller-like pace and you'll never want to put it down. This book connected to me so well because I was once considering suicide. Everything Hannah Baker talks about is how I once felt. It was really shocking to me because I thought I was the alone when it came to that kind of stuff. But this book really opened my eyes. I think it should be mantatory to read this novel. It's so moving. I loved this book so much, I bought my own copy to lend to other people.
The book is good in that the idea is something new and different. I was really excited about the plot line being about a girl who commits suicide and now is telling why through cassette tapes she left behind for the 13 people she says were a reason she killed herself. I was really looking forward to seeing the concept play out but i have to say it missed the mark. I was let down as soon as the reasons were revealed as to what each person , that she blames, did. It was like really? that is not a reason to kill yourself. And i know that it was her mindset and the collective experiences that brought her to the conclusion but it felt like it was poorly written. I couldn't relate to the main character Hannah at all. She seemed to childish, almost like the words written for her were what the author thought she would say, not what really should have been said in that situation. It lacks a sense of emotion and realism. I couldn't feel bad for any of the situations where your supposed to hurt with the character. Overall it is average, good for one look over but thats pretty much it. Not something you would buy, more like check out from your library.Read full review
My daughter read the overview on this book at a friends house. She said she would really be interested in it. After we received it in the mail I never saw her without her book in her hands untill she was finished with it. She said its one of the best books she ever read. Anytime you can get a 14 year old to read with such enthusiasm its great. She would sit on her trampoline in the back yard with her book and just read.
I love this book. I read it once before from the library and I cried. I have read it 3 times now and it never gets old. I love the way the story is told and how you feel as if you are the one listening to the tapes along with Clay. It also makes you think that there is repercussions to every single one of your actions no matter how small you may think they are.
