      TOMYTEC N scale motor chassis- smooth running power

      TOMYTEC sells N scale Japanese prototype subway cars which are designed to be display pieces only. You can convert them to running models by using either TOMYTEC motor chassis's or trailer chassis's as needed. The box the car comes in usually indicates which model motor or trailer chassis you need for the conversion. Installation of this motor chassis was very easy requiring no tools. You start by spreading the car body slightly to pop out the dummy chassis and interior. Gently pry out the two side underframes from the dummy chassis and reinstall them on the motor chassis. Then mount the couplers to the trucks. It's a little tricky because the parts are small but they simply interlock and slide together. You have extra pieces to extend the couplers out from the car body if necessary. You ...

      Just the job for my N gauge underground train

      This is a powerful, smooth-running but compact bogie, which fits my N gauge underground train very well. The price was very reasonable, and given it was sent from Japan, the around £5 postage for a sturdy cardboard pack also very reasonable.

      Flimsy, lightweight plastic chassis with cheap unreliable motors. Unfortunately, there are few alternatives.

      I have used over a half dozen of these Tomytec motorized chassis. Be aware that they are made of lightweight plastic, easily warped and damaged if disassembled. The motors are very cheap, and not powerful enough to pull more than a car or two. Adding much more weight would overload the motor. Every one of the motors has burned out when used with a DCC system. Further, the wheel flanges are too deep to use with fine scale track. I have had to rebuilt them with Kato or similar motors, and even then, the chassis are not rigid enough. Unfortunately there are few alternatives.
