So many Fujifilm users speak negatively about the 50mm f/2 because the 56mm f/1.2 is so impressive. However, speaking as someone who owns and uses both lenses, I prefer shooting with the 50mm f/2. The 50mm is weather sealed, has faster autofocus, has a closer minimum focus distance, and delivers almost identical image sharpness from f/2.8 onward. At f/2 the 50mm isn’t quite as sharp as the 56mm, but you have to pixel-peep test charts to see the difference. I often have to shoot portraits at f/2 with the 56mm to get the entire face in focus, so lately I just use the 50mm because I can get closer (thanks to the closer minimum focus distance), it focuses faster (with better accuracy), and f/2 is better than f/1.2 for getting a complete face in focus. The only time I use the 56mm is for low light events where I don’t want to use high ISO and I’m far enough away from the subject that shallow depth of field isn’t an issue.Read full review

If you don’t need the 1.4 or don’t want to manually focus with legacy glass on a Fuji, this is a versatile, fast, sharp lens. It is solidly built, weather sealed, snappy focus, and gas a good minimum focus distance.

Really loving this lens! I've been gravitating towards street photography ever since getting my first Fujifilm camera with a 35mm lens a bit over a year ago. I decided I wanted something with a bit more zoom that was also weather resistant so the 50mm was the perfect fit. I had been very tempted by the XF56mm F1.2 R but the steep price and lack of weather resistance ultimately lead me to the 50mm F2. This lens is only slightly larger and heavier than the 35mm so it still makes for a great every day lens.

Compact and an easy traveler, it’s modest telephone provides those closeups you can’t get to. Small, it doesn’t attract attention. It’s very much in the spirit of the early Leica rangefinders - precision, predictability and sharpness.

Great Fujifilm prime. Compact, light, sharp and affordable.Images render exceptional "Fuji" colors. Buy either black or silver. My criteria was to buy the one with the greater discount. Silver might look funky on a black body but either color lens looks great on a silver body.Very quiet and fast focusing.
