About this product

Product Information

The "work from home" phenomenon is thoroughly explored in this illuminating new book from bestselling 37signals founders Fried and Hansson, who point to the surging trend of employees working from home (and anywhere else) and explain the challenges and unexpected benefits.  Most important, they show why - with a few controversial exceptions such as Yahoo -- more businesses will want to promote this new model of getting things done. The Industrial Revolution's "under one roof" model of conducting work is steadily declining owing to technology that is rapidly creating virtual workspaces and allowing workers to provide their vital contribution without physically clustering together.  Today, the new paradigm is "move work to the workers, rather than workers to the workplace."  According to Reuters, one in five global workers telecommutes frequently and nearly ten percent work from home every day. Moms in particular will welcome this trend.  A full 60% wish they had a flexible work option. But companies see advantages too in the way remote work increases their talent pool, reduces turnover, lessens their real estate footprint, and improves the ability to conduct business across multiple time zones, to name just a few advantages.  In Remote , inconoclastic authors Fried and Hansson will convince readers that letting all or part of work teams function remotely is a great idea--and they're going to show precisely how a remote work setup can be accomplished.

Reviews
Praise for the authors' first book Rework " Rework is brilliant...It's fantastic. If you are starting a business, or thinking about starting a business, or running a business, or breathing air, this is a book you should read." --Brad Field, MIT Technology Review " Rework takes aim at marketing, hiring, and other disciplines associated with building a business as if they were bottles lined up against a wall. Then it blows them away... Fried and Hansson are the Henry David Thoreaus of entrepreneurship ." --Leigh Buchanan, Inc. Magazine " Rework is a Webby manifesto for post-recession success. Forget about strategic planning, [the authors] advise. And ignore your competition--unless you feel like picking a public fight." --Nick Summers, Newsweek " I want to buy a copy for everyone I know either to validate their current business practices or to expose them to alternative ways of doing things." --Alexis Rodich, Washington Post " This book is short, fast, sharp and ready to make a difference. It takes no prisoners, spares no quarter and gives you no place to hide, all at the same time... Stop reading the review...Buy the book "--Seth Godin, Guest Review, Amazon " Read this book multiple times to help give you the courage you need to get out there and make something great ." -- Tony Hsieh, CEO, Zappos.com   "Stripped of all big words and fancy strategies, Rework 's collection of short, inspiring essays advocates a 'less is more' approach to starting your own business, handing out tips on increasing productivity and debunking myths in business. And based on the success of 37Signals, it looks like their advice is worth holding onto ."  --Sheryl Sulistiawan, Fast Company " An Elements of Style for building profitable businesses in a web-savvy world . Each chapter is two to five pages long and delivers [the authors'] tactics and principles fat-free, without fluff."  --Tim Ferriss, Fourhourworkweek.com "Shines a 21st Century light on the running of a business... By far the most useful and provocative business book I've read in recent years ." --Kevin Partner, PC Pro "A small manifesto on the art of launching and running a company in the Web age.  If you've ever thought of starting your own business, consider Rework your recipe book ."--Farhad Manjoo, Slate

I have a problem with this book and seller. I contacted the seller and never heard back. While the book is in good condition, I am upset because I paid over $13 for a book whose cover and back read “NOT FOR SALE”. I planned to give the book as a gift and now I can’t. After receiving the book I checked the picture and “NOT FOR SALE” was there but visible only by enlarging the picture. I want to return the book and buy one suitable for a gift but the seller has not responded.
