For 35 years I would come across a memory of a Giant Robot standing on the coast line. I could never remember the movie's name. But the vision was awesome and unforgetable for a little kid. I fianally had enough of not knowing the name and went on an easter egg hunt. I found it! KRONOS - First try on buying what might be the movie proved successful. The sceen on the sea shore was to neat to discribe after all these years. This is one for the Classics. A very good 1950's style SI-FI. The breif view inside the monster is quite something. Good special effects ( don't be to critical ). Good plot with the typical acting, name tags and discriptions on the walls.
I bought this because I saw it on TV a long time ago. It's not one you see often and it's not because it's a bad film. I have a collection of sci-fi films of the 50s & 60s (even some clunkers) and needed this one. One of the things I like most about it is that the "villian" is a machine, not an alien being. How can you stop a machine? You send in top of the line bombers of the time to blow it up using atom bombs (the answer to everything at the time) but guess what??? It loves it and sucks up the energy!! The special effects are not the best, even for the time. But the first time it's seen on the shore in Mexico after it appears overnight...how scary is that? No one saw it coming.
I saw this movie as the main feature of a double with "She Devil" at the Gopher Theater in Minneapolis in 1957. I don't think I've seen a better robot sci-fi, because of the deliciously eerie foreshadowing and the fairly awe-inspiring appearance of the robot from the sea. Without modern effects, the imagination can easily embrace the fear factor in the way the leviathian moves-great pre-teen fun!

This is one of the eariest examples of a giant robot in sci fi cinema that I've been able to find. The special effedts are a little bit dated but still a lot of fun to watch.
