About this product

Product Information

When a small space probe falls to earth in a remote village of New Mexico, all but two of the town's inhabitants--an infant and an old alcoholic--meet death as their blood turns to powder. After two reconnaissance pilots have also perished, a national state of emergency is declared. The two survivors and the recovered space probe are transported to a mammoth five-story underground laboratory, and a team of scientists--biologist Jeremy Stone (Arthur Hill), microbiologist Ruth Leavitt (Kate Reid), blood chemistry authority Mark Hall (James Olson), and pathologist Charles Dutton (David Wayne)--is swiftly brought to the lab to discover the nature of the deadly organism brought by the space probe. The team is subjected to grueling hours of precautionary decontamination measures--which are filmed with extraordinary art direction in stunning monochromatic sequences--and informed that the laboratory complex is equipped with an automatic self-destruct device that will be triggered should infection spread. Through exhaustive tests, the team learns that the minute organism, dubbed the ANDROMEDA STRAIN, is alien in nature, and the scientists must quickly find a cure before all of humanity is wiped out. Quietly thrilling, with superb pacing from director Robert Wise, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, based on the novel by Michael Crichton, is one of the most stylistically beautiful science fiction films ever made.

  • Believable Sci-fi

I purchased this video because I had remembered watching the movie-late night babysitting- a few times as a young person. I've ALWAYS loved sci-fi and this show impressed me greatly at the time-although the things I take offense to now, I have no memory of seeing then. The story line is that a space-probe has crashed into a small town in the desert of the southwest US. The government sends men into retrieve it only to lose contact with them after they get into the town. After a couple tries of this, they do a fly-over which shows that all the town seems to be dead. The government has a top-team of scientists and doctors for just such a biological emergency. A couple of them are sent into the town, wearing protective gear and find two people still alive...an infant and a drunken old ...

  • Well done movie

This was a great movie and it really portrays a possible outcome that may someday happen. The way everyone is messing around with germs and bacteria these days, something really bad is eventually going to happen. Lets just hope they can "fix" what they break before its too late. I remember watching this original version as a youngster and even then it raised my awareness of such potential catastrophe. A great suspense movie and a great addition to your library of movies.

  • The Andromeda Strain - The first remake

We enjoyed the remake more from our current concept. It was bought to parallel the original in our collection. The remake is more "today", while the original is still very retro for us. A good concept about the alien invasion from the level of smallest invader, but who was just as deadly.

  • The Andromeda Strain

I saw this movie many years ago, I an happy to have been able to purchase it!! I think everyone should see it. It makes you wonder what can really happen.
