I had reservations about how the blending of Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead would sound together. Let's face it, on the surface, Bob Dylan's nasally, and often mumbly sound doesn't seem like a good fit with the Dead's much lively music. But the Dead bring their style into this blend and maintain it while supporting Dylan's verses. It's Dylan's words with the Dead sound, not either or. If you love The Dead, you will love this album for the integrity of their music working with Bob Dylan's words, and if you're a Dylan fan, you will love his new sound with some old, familiar lyrics.

Have seen both Dylan and The Dead live over the years, but never together. Great to hear how they blended and fed off each other in this session.

Let's make this real easy. If you want Dylan live, make sure The Band is with him (Before the Flood). If you want to cure insomnia, buy anything by the Dead live. Supposedly, there were some great shows with Bob & Jerry, but apparently, Columbia misplaced those tapes. I only paid $3.50 for this, and I still got stiffed.
