Led by hard-bitten matriarch Dola (voice of Cloris Leachman), the pirates are a rowdy yet dimwitted group of brothers who are after Laputa's treasure. Led by the greedy yet civilized Muska (voice of Mark Hamill), the military is after Laputa's secret powers. Everyone races to get to the abandoned castle of Laputa, which has been overgrown with vines and plant life. Its only inhabitants are the animals and robots who protect a magical garden. As the different parties fight over who gets to control Laputa, it's up to Sheeta to use her ancient knowledge to save it from ultimate destruction. The English-language version also includes the voices of Mandy Patinkin and Andy Dick.

    One of Studio Ghibli's Best films

    A rip roaring ride of non stop action, with its industrial age setting, steam trains, and air pirates, this is one of the greatest films Studio Ghibli have made. It still looks great after 31 years.

    This is just a magical film - if you like Miyazaki then this is up with the best. The setting came from his visit to Wales and especially the old mining towns - complete with old industrial workings....!

    Great swashbuckling family fun!

    One of the best animated kids films ever. Watched when I was maybe 8 or 10 (30 years ago!) and it was one of my faves. Up there with the Goonies! Enjoying it now with my 6 year old, who also loves it! One of the earliest, and one of the best Studio Ghibli films...

    Studio Ghibli films are worth collecting - they are so unique and special.

    I have been collecting Studio Ghibli films for my granddaughter - Laputa was one of them. There are enough reviews looking into the film - therefore I won't be saying anything that has already been written. I shall continue in the same genre as each Japanese film is unique on its own. We have around 15 already. They are wonderful stories; and each animation is unique - well worth chasing up and starting a collection of your own. I would recomment this film and the many others available to those who like animated films with something special about them - Laputa - Castle in the Sky is no exception.
