I loved Seinfeld when it was first aired, and have enjoyed it immensely since it has come out on DVD. Now that I have Curb, which I did not watch when it was aired, I have an extension of Seinfeld that goes quite a bit beyond where Seinfeld could go. It was one thing for Seinfeld to discuss abortion via making your own pizza, or masturbation via a contest, but it is quite another thing entirely to explore the bizarre inner creative world of Larry David as he subsumes the George Costanza character and becomes far more than Jason Alexander could ever be (Jason, after all, was emulating Larry David, but now Larry David emulates himself - a bit like "Being John Malkovich". Only Larry David could characterize himself as the perpetual and ignorant misanthrope so self-assured of his own rightness that he cannot see the forest for the trees at almost every turn. Indeed, sitting down and watching Curb episode after episode, Larry David becomes rather grating on the nerves, an experience that perhaps does not come when one has a week between episodes. However, he is funny and his show is a brilliant experiment in scriptless comedy. That his world is populated by many of the actors on Seinfeld (almost never as those characters, though often as the actors themselves looking for work post-Seinfled, or indeed as entirely new characters), and even existing in the same world as Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, Julia Louise Dreyfus, and Jerry Seinfeld themselves (see especially Season 7), Curb Your Enthusiasm allows all of these actors to explore an often cynical and socially destructive world defined by Larry David's bizarre and often paranoic view of life. One negative word, though, about the formulaic nature of the show despite the fluidity by which the action and dialogue is achieved. Over and over, one sees that Curb is sometimes little more than the perfection of story format from Seinfeld. It is interesting to watch the special features from Seinfeld and listen to Larry David discuss how little he know of writing and how surprising and wonderful it was when he stumbled onto something simple like having two storylines converge and create dramatic and comedic opportunities. In Curb, one sees that Larry David has mastered formula and religiously sticks to it despite the freedom that his unscripted episodes could provide. He does not experiement with form, only with the substance of what gets captured on film. He then forms that substance to fit his formula, punctuated with his "staring contests" and self-defeats. Always funny but never unexpected. I suppose I could simplify my remarks and assert that Curb is merely Seinfeld Redux. It is Seinfeld to the next level of controversy and obscenity.Read full review
This is such a funny show. Larry David is a super writer and a very talented guy in this show. He has so many stars in this show and everything revolves around Larry and his peculiar ways. This set is a bargain set and worth it. You get all 8 seasons with discs in paper sleeves so you get a super price. Highly recommend.

I rated this at good, solely just because of the video quality. its not even clean dvd quality, it seems like its vcd quality. When i looked at the size of the disc its not even a dvd-9, its 4.5gig each disc. Maybe its the version i bought from the seller, but if someone has one that full dvd quality, it when placed in a computer its about 9gig's a disc. please let me know But the show overall is more than excellent, this show has my ribs hurting from all the laughing. i have to say season 3 is my all time favorite!!!
As is almost always the case with HBO productions, this series is simply marvellous. I caught most of the first season directly on TV but then life took a turn and I missed the next several seasons so it's great to now enjoy them. The cast is superb, the characters hilariously diverse and of course the inimitable Larry David holds everything together as nobody else possibly could. This series is most definitely a keeper and will be enjoyed and revisited many, many times.

Larry peals apart and bitches about every, otherwise excepted, social norm in existence. No tiptoeing around any subject what-so-ever for this maniac. Through some stretches, when you find that you have not been actually laughing, you're thinking, "wouldn't the world be a slightly better place if folks could just lay it all out there like Larry David." I'm on your side, Lar. Larry is writing proof that comedy is one of the most successful tools we have for breaking down the taboos and traditions that separate. Course, aside from the social, political, religio sluthing, there is plenty of hilarity to make this series one of my definite favorites of all time. *****... JT
